In a trend some refer to as “Blaxit,” Black Americans are taking advantage of Africa’s significantly reduced cost of living and perceived lack of racism and racial discrimination.
The COVID-19 pandemic and the racial reckoning following George Floyd’s murder pushed many Black Americans to go abroad in search of acceptance.
In a trend some refer to as “Blaxit,” Black Americans are taking advantage of Africa’s significantly reduced cost of living and what they described as the lack of racism and discrimination they faced in the United States, The New York Times reported.
Ashley Cleveland, 39, moved from Atlanta to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in 2020. Currently based in South Africa, she has a firm that assists foreigners in investing in and expanding their businesses.
Cleveland expressed appreciation that race is “an abstract concept” in much of Africa.
“Seeing Black African people on the money, on the billboards,” she said, “you immediately eliminate your Blackness.” Cleveland welcomed the change for her children, ages 9 and 2 when they left the U.S., noting that her elder daughter was “no longer bullied” for her deep brown skin tone.

Yes, and we have Bagdad, Florida and Hahira, Georgia, too..............
Hope they enjoy the insane levels of violent crime in South Africa—arguably the best developed nation in sub-Saharan Africa. Five of the 20 cities with the highest murder rates in the world are in South Africa.
But at least black people are on the money, so obviously way better to live there.
Fine. Leave if you want.
People who hate this country should just get out and stop complaining about it.
When that happens, she’ll be back.
This is what apex societies do. They kill off other societies which are less productive, less functional, and weaker in terms of performance, thinking, and even weaker in character.
Like apex predators, apex societies dominate the environment.
So people who are thinking about escaping to places that are lower on the societal food chain should remember the above.
This is the "real" social Darwinism. The strongest societies will always ultimately win. The only way this isn't the case is where certain weaker societies are permitted to exist in a bubble. And that, my friends, is what we call a zoo.
If that’s what they want then let them go. I’d say “good luck” but I wouldn’t really mean it because like most Americans these days, I have bigger fish to fry.
Say what?!?!?!?!
It *immediately eliminates her blackness*?????
Is she for real? I thought her blackness is what she's all about and now she's happy it's gone??????
👍
Of course, even though she spits on the hands that fed her and gave her more opportunities than anywhere else.
*** some black families ***
SOME? That is a weasel word if I ever heard one.
SOME could be as little as TWO. There is no way to know, but saying it this way continues to promote the idea that racism is systemic in this country.
Sure, they ought to move to Africa unless they have a young girls:
“In Kenya, local media reported almost 4,000 schoolgirls becoming pregnant when schools were closed during the lockdown.”
Or unless they have a young boys:
“s]ince 1975, Africa has become the epicentre of the problem, providing the largest concentration of both conflicts and child soldiers”
They still get their welfare checks though, right?
There is inherent blatant discrimination in this country, which is natural. For example, if a business posts a single job opening and 100 apply, when the business hires 1 person the other 99 have been discriminated against.
Just because a black has been discriminated against does not mean it was racism. (per Walter Williams)
There’s also a Bagdad in Kentucky and one in Arizona. Used to be a Bagdad, CA, but apparently it’s gone now.
Please, let this be a trend.
Hahira ... Ray Stevens made made it fameous.
George Floyd died of a fentanyl overdose.
He told me that it was the best money he ever spent. He got back kids immersed in a culture of respect and decency instead of the "coolness" of gangster culture. BTW, he was a very nice guy to work with.
In Africa, they do discriminate based on skin tone, lighter versus darker.
“Must keep blinders on” One sees what they wish to see. Africa is very Tribal. I always wondered how they knew but they do.
Keep up the good fake news about blacks who are alleged victims of racism leaving the US and encourage more to do the same.
