10 Shortages That Are Getting Worse
FinancialSurvivalNetwork ^ | 10/13/21 | Kerry Lutz

The global supply chain is in complete tatters. Tens of thousands of items and services are in short supply or can’t be found at all. This is leading to higher prices, a/k/a cost-push inflation, and a general decrease in the purchasing power of all fiat currencies, be it the US Dollar, the Japanese Yen or the Euro.

The choice of items to include here could fill volumes. We picked things that often appear very obscure, such as ketchup or pallets and yet are staples of modern life.

Pallets Wooden shipping pallets are required to transport almost anything imaginable including: paper goods, food items, auto parts, diapers, etc. Until now, they’ve always been plentiful and taken for granted. During the past year, pallet prices have more than doubled, going from less than $7 to over $15 now. According to Bloomberg, pallets are now a hot commodity, which has led to hoarding and even theft. While lumber prices have recently decreased, pallet prices have kept going up and continue to do so, while supplies will remain extremely tight for the foreseeable future.

“Where do honest/truthful politicians fit in that last of shortages?”

That is found in a different list: Totally Absent.

Neighbor just burned a big pile of pallets.

I maybe go through a roll of foil every year or two. Still using baking pans with lids from back in the 30s and pyrex dishes with lids from the 60s. There are shortages of so many things because we’re a throw away society.

Don’t buy individual drinks in aluminum cans. There’s a glass of tap water on this desk.

Swish water in ketchup and mustard jars to get the very last bit out. Every time you don’t use the last bit of anything or repair instead buying new is money and work hours down the drain. Learn to repair those broken appliances and whatever.

The major cause is the government paying workers to stay home.

The dry pet food bags are smaller. For the first time ever, the last two purchases of bagged food has been full of weevils.

Can you share the brand with the weevils, please?

We feed our cats kibble, mostly. Being indoor cats, the vet said that we should go easy on the soft food. I was giving it to them once a day, but now it’s once or twice a week. We have a good supply of kibble on hand, not gonna run out of it any time soon, but yeah, the soft food is getting scarce. Is that made in China, too?

Pet food is so expensive these days. It might be cheaper to buy them wagyu beef.

“In times like these we need a steady hand at the tiller”

Instead we see the unsteady hand of Joe Biden pinching the nipple of a child in a daycare center. Horrific withdrawal from Afghanistan, plus a faux show of force killing ten people including seven children, tens of thousands illegals crossing the border, border patrol being investigated, political prisoners held in solitary, massive inflation. Media ignores it, liberals ignore it, should we think empty shelves are going to wake anyone up?

> No copper wire anywhere. Copper is needed for all electric motors and lift truck batteries. <

There was an article on FR a couple of days ago where some financial expert predicted that wind and solar would replace fossil fuels simply because battery technology was getting better.

Then some alert Freeper mentioned how important copper wire was to that whole scheme. Oh, well. Maybe Biden could just issue an executive order directing that more copper wire magically appear in warehouses.

Recipe for ketchup using two aluminum cans of ingredients.

https://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/evenbetter_heinz_ketchup.html

6 ounce can tomato paste
8 ounce can tomato sauce
1/4 cup plus 3 tablespoons white vinegar
1/4 cup water, or enough to get the right consistency
1/4 cup granular Splenda or equivalent liquid Splenda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 teaspoon allspice
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

Mix all of the ingredients well in a medium saucepan. Cover and simmer for 1 hour. Cool then chill before serving. Keep refrigerated.

Makes 2 cups or about 32 tablespoons

Truthful politicians are in the hens teeth category, under pots of gold at the end of the rainbow.

“”We picked things that often appear very obscure, such as ketchup or pallets and yet are staples of modern life.””

Can’t recall when I needed that “staple of modern life” - pallet! Just strange to list that as consumers arelooking for real staples of modern life - not what they’re shipped on.

I went to the store on Friday (Publix) guess it’s ok to name the establishment - and the first aisle I see when I enter the store is the energy drink aisle - Gatorade etc. It was nearly empty. I thought, “this is going to be a fun trip.”

I didn’t see another empty aisle in my entire time shopping - cereal, milk, eggs, bread, butter, ICE CREAM, TP - I got everything on my list even the six pack of bottled water that wasn’t there on previous shopping trips - house brand. I got 4 packs as long as there was plenty...

Don’t know if this is more scare tactics on the part of the media but it wouldn’t make sense if that was true - no benefit to anyone...so perhaps the shortages are still down the road. I’m a recent widow so my list isn’t very long but as long as ice cream and fresh veggies are stocked, I can make do.

I’ve heard that many, many drugs are made in China. One thing I am stocking up on is vitamins, esp. D3, Zinc...and so on.

Thanks - I’ll have to try that one. Here’s what I’ve been making:

Ingredients:

6 oz Tomato paste
1 cup Water
1/4 cup Besti Powdered Erythritol (or powdered monk fruit) (Swerve ok)
3 tbsp White vinegar (or apple cider vinegar for paleo)
1 tsp Sea salt
3/4 tsp Onion powder
1/2 tsp Garlic powder
1/4 tsp Paprika
1/8 tsp Ground cloves
1/8 tsp Mustard powder

https://www.wholesomeyum.com/keto-low-carb-sugar-free-ketchup-recipe/

At first I wasn’t sure I liked the cloves, but now I can’t imagine it without. The stuff is addictive, but then I’ve always loved ketchup.
