Video showing Chicago police fatally shooting 13-year-old Adam Toledo was released today, along with other materials related to the investigation.
Chicago's Civilian Office of Police Accountability announced on Wednesday that the video would be released today, two days after Adam's family was shown footage of the shooting. The agency said after the family watched the videos Tuesday night that based on the family's request, it would "not immediately release" the footage or other materials like 911 calls and witness statements to the public.
Prosecutors had described the events in the video over the weekend as a judge set bond at $150,000 for the 21-year-old man who was with the teen at the time of the fatal shooting.
Ruben Roman, who was represented by a public defender at a Cook County bond court hearing, was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and child endangerment.
The video captured Roman firing shots before police responded to the scene. Prosecutors said an officer apprehended Roman, who dropped red gloves on the ground during his arrest that later tested positive for gunshot residue.
The other officer chased Toledo, repeatedly telling him to stop, and eventually, Toledo stopped near a break in a wooden fence, prosecutors stated. Toledo, who was standing with his left side facing the officer and holding his hand to his right side, was ordered by the officer to show his hands, Cook County Assistant State's Attorney James Murphy said.
The officer told the teen to "drop it, drop it," as Toledo, with a gun in his right hand, turned toward the officer, prosecutors said. The officer opened fire, striking the teen once in the chest. The gun Toledo was holding landed a few feet away, prosecutors said.
The officer called for medical assistance and started performing chest compressions on Toledo, who died at the scene, authorities said.
The teen's right hand tested positive for gunshot residue, according to Murphy. Fired shell casings from near where Roman fired shots matched the 9-millimeter handgun that was recovered near Toledo, prosecutors said.

Mayor Ligtfoot alleged before the official release of the video that she had not seen evidence that Adam shot at the police and that she wants her citizens to express themselves peacefully. The footage has been widely anticipated in the city after other videos of violent police encounters around the country sparked civil unrest.
Adam’s family had recently called for people to “remain peaceful” to honor his memory as the city awaits the release of the video. They echoed that request again in Thursday’s statement.
“We acknowledge that the release of this video is the first step in the process toward the healing of the family, the community and our city,” the statement read in part. “We understand that the release of this video will be incredibly painful and elicit an emotional response to all who view it, and we ask that people express themselves peacefully.”

I think what happened was that the kid thru or dropped the gun behind the fence and when he turned around the kid’s hand came out from behind the fence and the cop shot. He could not see his hands and then the kids right hand came out from behind the fence, and seemed to be empty, but by that time the trigger was pulled immediately. Hard to tell in this video even slowed down.

Wrong. I've take a freeze frame of the video a split-second before the shot, and the kid is clearing holding both empty hands in the air, with a "who me"? kind of shrug. If he did have a gun, he had already ditched it, and was empty-handed when he faced the cop.
There looked like an semi-automatic on the ground on the far side of the stockade fence about 10 feet away, slide back and locked, probably empty chamber.
The kid, when he is shot, is on the other side of the fence, about 6 inches to a foot in front of it, near a break in the fence, both hands are shown in the air, empty, clearly on the near side of the fence. It does not seem possible the the gun would have flown from his hands when he was shot, and landed on the far side of the fence.
If that was his gun, it seems he ditched it before the cop shot at him.

I agree. I’ve stopped it at the 2:04 mark and 2:05 mark multiple times, sometimes getting a clearer image than others, and at 2:04 it appears he has something in his right hand that he’s attempting to drop behind the fence. In the clearer image at 2:05 his hands are empty, about shoulder height, and that’s when the officer fires his weapon.
Meanwhile, Russia is about to move on Ukraine.

What’s not being said is...march 24 the..Pres.of Ukraine signed a Presidential Directive ‘to pursue’ a policy of taking Crimea back.... which the only way that could happen is militarily.....they’ve also invited Nato to fly it’s warplanes near Russia’s borders.......so with Obama’s agenda and policy now operating in Washington no surprise Putin wouldn’t further secure his borders in preparation for that possibility and perform military exercises on his side of the border...... He knows Obama is in charge.
Ukraine’s also been building up military forces in Don-bass area with the idea of taking back that area. Additionally we have the same comments from NATO and other nation leaders drumbeat as before that Russia’s going to invade.
Additionally Along with Biden back in power regarding Ukraine, who was the point-man for Obama in Ukraine....., you’ve got Victoria Newman, number three in the State Dept. and Jake Sullivan also there who were major operators in Ukraine under Obama who are all “Russia-gators”.......so with Obama leading the charge this is a repeat and continuation of the Obama agenda in Ukraine........”unfinished business” says it well....... This all sounds like creating circumstances which will bring Ukraine and the US closer together with Nato to make Ukraine a relevant country on the world stage again, picking up the path to Ukraine’s acceptance into NATO...and it would cut off Russia from Europe indefinitely... Because Ukraine will never fully qualify as a member since it can never let lose of being a debtor state nor have a stable government on it’s own. Even present history has proven this...... Ukraine is the ‘key’ both Russia and the USA knows it’s significance long range.

Likely drug related. The 13-year old is the runner and the older kid is the ‘pit boss,’ or whatever the street term is in Chicago for the guy who collects the money and resupplies the runners.

I hope. My guess is the kid had a gun and when the cop first rolled up, he saw the gun in his hand and began the chase. At some point when the kid stopped, he tossed the gun behind the fence where - apparently - it’s visible in one of the other officer’s bodycams.
Remember, they were responding to a shots-fired dispatch.
No, he cannot because it does not exist. I have watched that video and frozen it a half a dozen times and i have yet to see a gun in the raised hand of this kid.
Obeying orders and turning around with no weapon, hands up - that's justified to you? Clear video shows at the 2:04.5 mark the empty right hand illuminated by the flashlight.
When I saw this, I thought it was a gun. But I can't be sure.
But IMO, this now-deceased jackass with his multicolor "Just Do It" sweatshirt shouldn't have been in a situation by firing a weapon and running from cops in a dimly lit alley.
Now he's dead. I have all the sympathy in the world for the policeman who shot him, and IMO, we all better start having some sympathy for people like him.
Doesn't mean we give them carte blanche and don't weed out the bad ones, but my heart goes out to him. His professional life is probably ruined now.
