Kamala Harris does not salute the military when she arrives at or steps off Air Force Two, unlike her predecessors former Vice Presidents Mike Pence and Joe Biden who both saluted the military, numerous videos show. In one video Harris seems more interested in fluffing her hair than showing respect to the men and women who serve the nation.
While there is no hard and fast protocol on Presidents and Vice Presidents saluting the military, President Ronald Reagan set the modern era precedent by saluting the officers stationed at the steps for Marine One and Air Force One. Every president since Reagan has maintained the tradition, even Barack Obama though sometimes holding his cup of coffee made the salute somewhat awkward.

As the CIVILIAN head of the US military, the president is not obligated to salute or even return a salute

Civilians should not salute men in uniform.
FDR did not do it. Harry Truman did not do it. General of the Army Dwight David Eisenhower did not do it once he occupied a civil office. John F. Kennedy did not do it. LBJ did not do it.
The office of Commander in Chief of the Army and the Navy is a civilian position. I can, possibly, accept civilians who hold that office following this novel custom, although I personally do not believe they should.
But the Vice President? Who is not serving in the armed forces, who is not in the chain of command, and who does not deserve to be saluted nor to salute herself? That’s ridiculous.
Please show me a reference that makes the Commander in Chief of the Army and the Navy a military rank.

Once again, the CIVILIAN CIC or VP or any politician is NOT required to return a salute from any military member. It is a custom that was started during the Reagan administration and has been copied by most of the following presidents.

It’s often been said that the military is full of commies who hate the USA and love, love. love the Marxocrat left, so much so that most servicemen wouldn’t bat an eyelash at killing fellow Americans if ordered to do so. That may be true at the high command level but I continue to believe that most of the troops would more likely shoot at their own officers and the current gang of contemptible politicians. I know I would. And I say that as a Viet Nam vet. GOPee Delenda Est!
Even the CIC is not required to return a salute as only the military salutes. The president is not in the military.
I don’t remember the VP being in my chain of command, has that changed? If not she has NO RIGHT to return a salute.
Saluting is not cut and dried.
It is more of a greeting than a mark of rank.
It is a privilege not granted to prisoners in stockades.
One of the worst behind chewings I took as a Lieutenant was when one of my Soldiers didn’t salute a General’s car.

Bill Clinton was the first president since Roosevelt to not have served in the military. No DemocRat since Carter has served in the military.
