An unsmiling Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says he would “absolutely” back former President Donald Trump in 2024 should he win the Republican party nomination.
McConnell made the surprising comments in an interview with Fox News Channel’s Bret Baier who asked flat-out if he’d be willing to support Trump if he becomes the GOP nominee.
“The nominee of the party?,” the Kentucky Republican replied. “Absolutely.”
McConnell and Trump have been engaged in a very open and fiery clash ever since the events of January 6th, in which a small group of protesters involved in a rally for the former President stormed the Capitol.

Trump should have verbally castrated McConnell today. The fact that he didn’t gives me great pause.
Weasel words. The only reason he can say this is that he doesn’t think President Trump will be the nominee. You can bet he’ll do everything in his power to undermine the possibility of it happening. If and when it does, he’ll either give lip service to the fact, or simply find a reason to turn coat.

It’s closer to the truth to say he’d try to stab Trump in the back even if he wins the nomination in 2024.
By that time, Mitch may traveling with John McCain.

There is no great affection among Republican voters for the 145 Rinos in the House. Between the Rep voters “love” for Trump and him “controlling the cash” I think he has a pretty good chance of influencing the 2022 primaries. The difficulty previously in affecting primary conservative victories was Mitch controlled the money.
My guess is Mitch is having a very bad night...:-)
