Courtesy goes a long way. I’ve seen my husband get stopped for speeding and come away with just a warning on more than one occasion. He’s polite and admits it when he’s been speeding. We’ve taught our sons the same - speak respectfully, move slowly and do as you’re asked.
Sorry but that’s absurd. You ALREADY have guns drawn on you. YOU DO WHAT THE OFFICERS SAY. By ignoring them and trying to reach into his car for something was an idiotic thing to do, if he grabs a gun then you might have far less than a second to respond.
The bottom line - DO WHAT THE POLICE SAY. That is the problem with an awful lot of these events. There seems to be this narrative that it’s ok to resist...then cops get killed. This is the result. This guy knew guns were on him and he escalated the threat and danger. You’re asking cops to get killed so they don’t make a ‘mistake’. The only mistake here was not following police orders once they believed they were in danger.
How do you know the black guy wasnt going for a gun in the car, the cops have done DO LITTLE to preps lately this ASSHAT probably thought he could grab a gun and the cops would be afraid to shoot him!!
Yikes..source?
Good article!
Domestic disturbance calls go south all the time. Usually drugs or alcohol or both, sometimes for days, involved.
WTF is wrong with cops today. Just because you have a gun and a bugger finger dont make it a good idea to shoot everyone who ignores their Commands.
I always think this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OflGwyWcft8
Wow, who could have predicted this would happen — except everyone. In Wisconsin, no less.
Believe me, I bet he was going for a gun. I am all about shooting thugs, so these Keystone Cops better have had their body cams on and they better release the video, by hook or by crook, IMMEDIATELY before the hominids start rioting.
It looked like there was something on the ground, by the car door, after the shooting. The handgun the perp was going for?
They will argue he was just retrieving his driver license to show ID to the officers.
> The bottom line - DO WHAT THE POLICE SAY. <
Yes. You are absolutely correct in theory. But you must factor in the fact that, when under stress, people often do irrational things.
Read up on the Daniel Shaver case. That poor guy was on his belly crying and begging for his life. He went to hike up his pants and the police shot him to death.
There are, of course, also many sad examples of criminals killing police officers. All Im saying here is this: the phrase just obey the police is easier said than done when youre under great stress. Scratch an itch on your leg and you could get shot to death. It just aint right.
So what's going on is waking you up? It's a tough pill to swallow.
Philip Brailsford was fired, then rehired so he could collect his pension, after being found not guilty of murdering Daniel Shaver.
Nah too weak. The video is pretty obvious!
I see a stark difference between the Daniel Shaver case and this. Daniel was fearfully complying and was in an already weak position being on his hands and knees. This guy wasn’t complying at all, ignored all orders and reached for something in his car. This wasn’t an “I’m frozen in fear” (non-compliance) or a I’m complying but moved my arm wrong. This was a blatant disregard for the officers orders, once guns are drawn you’re going to lose - this guy pushed it.
...not even close imo.
I have a friend who lives nearby in Racine. Wonder what the spillover from the “unrest” will be.
This video helps introduce the concept of it not working: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yaie4bzsFI
