It is more than an open secret that the Republican Establishment so hates Ted Cruz that they are more and more openly rooting for Donald Trump to win Iowa.
I just got todayâs Hotline from National Journal. It is behind a pay wall, but it is worth noting their top story confirms what I have been seeing and hearing.
The Establishment thinking is that if Trump beats Cruz in Iowa, they can then beat Trump with Rubio, Bush, or Christie.
But that is horse manure and if they were not all incompetent morons they would know it. These guys have not made a dent in Trumpâs popularity. The only guys who has is named Ted Cruz, and he has done it by being humorous and kind to Trump.

Hint, it isn’t Trump.
Yes, Trump has been running on a platform of federalism, constitutional principles and limited government... so the voices in your head tell you. It must be the voices because it hasn’t been Trump.
Believe what you want. I could care less.
He has been hawking Reagan’s platform plus a plan to fix illegal immigration and secure the border.
If you wish to think of that as big government, go for it.
Erickson tries another smear. What a steaming pile.
“Maybe the film is finally being lifted from their eyes. Trump at his core is one of them.”
The establishment knows they cannot make a liberal deal with Cruz, but they can with Trump since he will make a deal on anything if the money is right for him.
And lawyers are known for never making a deal and living like paupers because they're not interested in money, right ?
Guy used to sub for Rush. Haven’t heard him there for a while.
I enjoy how the GOPe is betting against themselves.
Is Pete Rose running them now?
It’s going to be Trump/Cruz 2016/2020 and Cruz/XXXX 2024/2028.
Gives one all the more reason to support Cruz.
The eatablishment owns Cruz thru his donors. His voting record and acquiescence on the Ryan speakership show it.
And before you try to say he’s in the Semate and not the house, the Freedom Caucus was his creation. Their approval allowed his ascension to speaker.
He was allowed to vote nay on the omnibus atrocity for political cover, but if he really opposed it, where was the filibuster? He would’ve had massive support for it from the voters.
Was he too busy campaigning to filibuster that monstrosity?
Priorities. His over good of country.
Not like he has it out for Trump...
I have rescinded my invitation to Mr.Trump. While I have tried to give him great latitude, his remark about Megyn Kelly was a bridge too far. -Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) August 8, 2015

I hope so. I’ve Benin hoping for that for a while.
Would like Cruz AG and on USSC too.
With Cruz, nothing changes. He has no cross over appeal. Cannot create a new broad political base. It would be like if Huckabee or Rick Santorum won. Different pricks, all the same big money donors. Cruz is still all in on the “Free Trade” scam and doesn’t actually oppose TPP for what it is. He just opposes some parts of it, which won’t matter anyway because Obama can pass it with an up or down vote. Same thing with illegal immigration. Cruz has lied about it for months now.
Sure, you might get a little bit of time where suddenly abortion becomes the most important issue, but once he’s vanquished, it’ll just return to politics as usual.
If Cruz wins, the GOP lives to fight another day. If Trump wins, the GOP is destroyed and a new political party will take its place, uniting blue collar workers and patriotic americans of all stripes.
Yeah, right...
Santa, Easter Bunny, and magic fairies with dream dust, too.
You grossly underestimate Cruz. Cruz is already even with Rotten, and the race has not even begun.
Uh, I’m a Cruz supporter and I find this claim to be a bit suspicious. The GOPe know that Trump and Cruz are splitting the “non-establishment” vote right now. The only time they’ll be rooting for Trump or Cruz to take each other out of the race at this point is in a winner-take-all state AND when there is a single establishment candidate to support. Until then, taking out one of two candidate who are splitting the “anti” vote is self-defeatist.
The GOPe may be tone deaf to the wishes of the electorate, but they can read polls and count delegates.
Trump IS the Establishment. This time, he creates an illusion of an “outsider”, but he has been buying the Establishment for decades. He is cutting out the middle men. He wants the power for himself. He will say anything to get elected.
Go Cruz, the ONLY Constitutional Conservative running.
