According to the Rutgers Daily Targum, freshman Emmet Brennan helped author a bill to create black, Latino, Asian, and third-gender mascot friends to accompany the schools original Scarlet Knight mascot adopted in 1955. Our mascot does not represent how diverse we are as a school, decided Brennan after he noticed the mascots fair skin and blue eyes while working as a press box server during the universitys football games.
Katie Park, writing for the Daily Targum, tells her readers:
After taking issue with the mascots complexion, Brennan began collaborating with student Mohamed Asker who currently serves as the SAs student affairs chair. Asker is also a member of the Arab Cultural Club and assisted Brennan in drafting the bill.
Although the bill passed the SA, Brennan said there were some concerns over the mascot possibly being offensive if it wasnt done properly. To assuage those concerns, Brennan consulted with the universitys black, Latino, and Asian cultural councils and has encouraged his peers to contribute to the process of creating diverse mascot friends.
What we were really hoping is that this would be a discussion with the entire student body, Brennan said. So we would have a working committee of the different multicultural [groups], possibly the Queer Caucus basically students who represent a unique voice, and have them all working together at the same table to make sure red flags that arise with any of those groups that mascot would immediately be tabled.
According to Brennan, the decision to create additional mascot friends rather than eliminate the current Scarlet Knight stems from his expectation that some alumni and administrators would be reluctant to replace something so traditional.
Theres always going to be people who complain, but I think we wont receive that much pushback because...

Ru Paul. Then can change the name of the mascot to Ru Tgers.
Okay. Let me see if I got this straight. Your student affairs chair is named Mohamed and your troubled by the way the mascot looks?
Yeah. I think you've got bigger issues.
He is correct. And white people are leading the charge. You really have no idea the level of contempt I have for self haters like this, no matter their age. I DESPISE little dickboys like Emmet Brennan and what he has done to this country, and what he has allowed to have done to himself.
When liberals in college have nothing better to do.
The Chartreuse Knight
Any university who lays claim to its quadrangle being called red square gets what it deserves.
Some people just need a good whack with a two by four.
I went to Rutgers and don't remember anywhere called "the red square". What quadrangle are you talking about? Which campus?
This idea died a violent internet death the moment it was announced. The pissy liberals who think up such nonsense rarely grow into financially contributing alumni, who were close to universally opposed.
Rutgers can solve this problem very easily by simply never again allowing Emmet Brennan to work as a “press box server” at sporting events... ...ever.
F’taghn!

IOW, no one but her little Queer Caucus has a voice in how the school operates. That's not very inclusive, it is Katie? How about a diversity of voices telling you to shut up and go home?
I can only imagine the courses she's taking that won't get her a job later and that she's one of those who take the bare minimum 9 hours. I saved my parents money by buckling down to graduate in 3 years. I took 18-21 hours every semester with after hours practices and an internship and worked p/t so didn't have time to worry about such pressing matters as the mascot's eyes.
Not having been around for the Middle Ages I can’t be sure, but I suspect that there were few knights of other than the white European persuasion round!
I too went to Rutgers and do not recall any such place. Maybe it's the spot outside Paul Robeson's dorm room.
