The ‘aesthetics’ of the Hi-Points have changed quite a bit in the last 10-15 years.

Is that hideous looking thing a 9mm?
Some rounds don’t really improve with a longer barrel. Put a .357 in there and you would have something.

I have a 9mm from Hi-Point, and while I don’t get to brag about being in the [insert brand name here] club. I hit my target, the gun cycles, I hit the target, the gun cycles, I hit the target, etc. I does what it’s supposed to do, and the price probably kept my wife from shooting me with it. Do wish take down for cleaning was easier.
Now, if I can get me used Glock, or a S&W M&P on the cheap... I’d be good with that too.

Those carbines will launch a 125gr 9mm at 1450fps.
Just like a .357 from a 4inch barrel.
But it's true the .357 is more effective. After all, the 9mm is ONLY .355!

But they are great guns. No home should be without a HiPoint carbine for self defense.
To: Mariner
I’m surprised that there hasn’t been a bunch of posts knocking hi point. Not everyone has a high dollar budget for firearms. But, better to have a hi point in hand than needing one and not having it.
For the money, they serve their purpose adequately.

Yea, for years their carbine was butt ugly.

I have shot a hi point and like it. It is one of the few semi autos which fit my hand perfectly.
I was really impressed with it. It does not seem to be ammo sensitive unlike some other semis.
To: Mariner
The carbine has a 16.5 inch barrel. According to BBTI, (Ballistics by the Inch) a .357 Magnum from a 4" barrel with their test ammo is 1496fps. Their test ammo of 9mm from a 16.5 inch barrel is 1430fps. (.357Mag from a 16" barrel is 2119fps, which is what the suggestion was)
Sure you could call that pretty close. You could also say that you have a carbine that is out performed by pistol.

Not going to outperform the sight radius, and you’re going to get much closer to .357 magnum performance if you use 9mm +P ammunition.

Been thinking about getting a rifle that shoots a pistol round...just for versatility and ease of not worrying about finding ammo.

Yea, for years their carbine was butt ugly. Yeah, but one of them functioned flawlessly at Columbine HS.

Yeah, they're ugly and bulky.
They also work. And they're cheap. And they work. And they're accurate.
Did I mention that they work?

I have the Hi-Point 4095 Carbine in 40 S&W. It’s REALLY butt-ugly, but it works.
There’s also 15-round magazines available for it.
I wish there was some aftermarket de-uglifying merchandise available.
