Thinking about moving SOuth - anyone who can provide suggestions?

Posted on 10/15/2013 9:47:23 PM PDT by freedom462

So I am thinking of simply leaving the job I work at now and heading to a Southern state, Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Northern Florida, Tennessee, etc since I figure that, since I am one of those who does not have a reliable source of family aid of any kind, that this could be my only option.

I am considering finding a church that has a sort of communal living situation, a farm, ranch, factory or other such source that could use additional workers and join one of them. I am thinking of it in light of a situation where there is such severe disaster than there are no jobs in the schools, restaurants - presuming they'd be out of business since noone could eat out anymore, malls, universities, hospitals, not to mention no engineering jobs of any kind either, unless they required another degree (which in theory I would not get since all the schools would no longer have any money).

So I am thinking of places such as what I listed above as places to start a new life in preparation for the possibility that all other work options are simply gone because the crisis got so severe and as a way to ensure I can have a community I can survive with, since my only other option would be to try and survive as a homeless person at this point.

Does anyone on FR have a sort of church based or other type of communal living situation, a farm, ranch or non federal park that is looking for new members and/or can suggest ways I can find that type of place to work so that I have survival chance? I figure that most likely, noone would be able to help that much but knowing what I do about FR, I figured might as well ask just for the heck of it if nothing else since my options otherwise are highly limited.

I'm guessing you'll get a fair number of answers telling you to STAY OUT. Perhaps a few cutting remarks about Yankees and some aspersions cast on your conservative creds in general.

That is an interesting comment. Did that happen to you? How did it play out?

My concern for this person is that they are looking for a lifeline before they move. That makes me think they have a lifeline where they are currently. Then all they will be doing is exchanging lifelines.

Bold people make bold moves. Others wait for someone else to move them.

No doubt! He is one ticked off at Texas person.

Texas is great....hotter than Hades in the summer with humidity to boot. You will feel like a wet dish rag at all times even in winter.

That is my biggest gripe about it so if you can stand that, you’re good to go.

I’ve no idea about the type of scenario you are looking for though.

Well, we’ll take care of that in the primary and the upstate wasn’t behind him anyway.

Jim DeMint was the congressman from my district before he was appointed to the senate and re-elected by a large margin twice. Tim Scott is my senator now. Funny how you forgot him.

Why don’t you clean up your own back yard and get rid of the fingerprints for effing driver’s licenses before you go around casting aspersions? And while you’re at it, dropkick your buddy John Cornyn out with the rest of the trash.

Good counterpunch. That John Cornyn strike was effective. But since we Southerners love to engage in state rivalries, I’m gonna ask you how many times did South Carolina re-elect Linda Graham to the U.S. Senate?

On the autism spectrum, which may mean that, for example, I would be considered worse than useless for any survival group or church communal group if they ever get the idea that communicating is a challenge for me

Honestly, I sort of just sense it is coming within the next month at most, one way or the other. Like a sixth sense telling me it is time to prepare for losing everything.

That "sense" you have been feeling just may very well be the Lord knocking. I don't know what your spiritual situation is but please get a copy of the Holy Bible (there are many online versions you can read such as http://www.tgm.org/bible.htm. Start out by reading the Gospel of John. In it you will learn that Jesus Christ is Almighty God in the flesh who came to earth to pay for all the sins of the world and offers heaven/eternal life to us as a gift by God's grace and we receive this gift by faith in Jesus Christ.

Once you have come to faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then pray to God, your Heavenly Father, to lead you according to His will and to bring others into your life that can help you grow in your faith as you learn to live a life that honors and glorifies God. That, my friend, is when He WILL show you what His will is for your life and lead you to where He wants you to be. You do not have to fear what goes on in this fallen world because God is with you always and will never leave you or forsake you. He tells us:

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” (Hebrews 13:5,6)

I'll be praying for you and would be happy to talk further should you want to. Just send me a Private Message here. God bless you!

I think what you are saying might be exactly what it is.

The issue is that I was raised in an environment where survival skills were never really taught from an early age and my family was not interested in me really learning them (they placed way more emphasis on school and finding the most ideal colleges and stuff) and I live among people who place zero priority in survival so finding a survival community among my neighbors and coworkers was never an option. And right now, I it is not possible for me to create a survival group among any of my neighbors, coworkers or friends since they all have 0 interest in it. I am not even sure it could be done with any of the churches in my city - I suspect none of them have thought about it or would want to start one. So I figured if I could not find a survival community in the South or Texas or somewhere and join them I had 0 % chance of living anyway so might as well consider that God has officially turned his back on me. Particularly since I could likely be in a situation where I need to join a sort of prepared survival group but would not really know where to start in making myself useful to them.

Well, most church folks I know are wonderful people...Baptists in particular.

You won’t go wrong anywhere in the South as long as it’s in the bible belt.

My parents moved us here from New Mexico in 1970 when I was 9, and except for 15 years in Michigan, I have lived here all my life...52 now. I like it except for the weather. But you cannot have everything.

And if you are not sure God is with you, then why not ask Him? That is what I do....I know He is with me, but when I have major life choices to make I ask Him to make them and then tell me thru His word. He always does.

I posted a thread on a man named George Muller that lived his entire life this way. You should read it and then watch the youtube video. Extraordinary and that kind of answered prayer is available to every believer in Christ. You can never go wrong when the Lord is making your choices.

God bless you,
jodyel

Well, Linda Graham is your senator. How do you feel about that? At least I can say Ted Cruz is my senator.

Only Texas can grow ‘em like that.

Even if you count Dubya among libs, he was most certainly a MAN.

“But, you can’t just join a survival community. “ Well as I said above, if that is true, then I figured I was gonna be dead in such a scenario anyway so might as well get it over with. I figured I did not really have any options other than trying to learn how to be useful to such a community since none of my friends, coworkers or neighbors would ever consider it - hell, by and large they all think Obama is going to ride in on his white horse and gallantly rescue them from any crisis they encounter. And I don’t even think any churches in my city would ever be willing and able to start one. So the problem was that I presumed that was the sole option I had, that or death.
