Thinking about moving SOuth - anyone who can provide suggestions?

Posted on 10/15/2013 9:47:23 PM PDT by freedom462

So I am thinking of simply leaving the job I work at now and heading to a Southern state, Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Northern Florida, Tennessee, etc since I figure that, since I am one of those who does not have a reliable source of family aid of any kind, that this could be my only option.

I am considering finding a church that has a sort of communal living situation, a farm, ranch, factory or other such source that could use additional workers and join one of them. I am thinking of it in light of a situation where there is such severe disaster than there are no jobs in the schools, restaurants - presuming they'd be out of business since noone could eat out anymore, malls, universities, hospitals, not to mention no engineering jobs of any kind either, unless they required another degree (which in theory I would not get since all the schools would no longer have any money).

So I am thinking of places such as what I listed above as places to start a new life in preparation for the possibility that all other work options are simply gone because the crisis got so severe and as a way to ensure I can have a community I can survive with, since my only other option would be to try and survive as a homeless person at this point.

Does anyone on FR have a sort of church based or other type of communal living situation, a farm, ranch or non federal park that is looking for new members and/or can suggest ways I can find that type of place to work so that I have survival chance? I figure that most likely, noone would be able to help that much but knowing what I do about FR, I figured might as well ask just for the heck of it if nothing else since my options otherwise are highly limited.

“communal living”

Pilgrims tried it.

Our country is trying it.

It’s really not working so well.

NOOB!

“Constitution demands”

Obama never saw a constitutional demand he didn’t satisfy.

to prevent the collapse you need to stop borrowing and the only way is to not raise the debt ceiling . this is what the republicans say but the media says that not raising the debt ceiling will cause a default which is a lie. if you had a credit card debt of 10,000 and they kept raising your limit , what would happen to you, you would default , them not raising your debt limit would help you , you see now? and the Constitution demands servicing of the debt FIRST so the media is lying lying lying lying. not raising the debt ceiling = something good what is needed but the media calls this default etc. lies

Oh there will be a default but it's because they keep raising the debt ceiling NOT because the Republicans refuse to raise the debt ceiling

the media is lying

its’ because the debt is growing that there will be a default but the media says the opposite

what's needed is to not raise the debt ceiling . the markets would eventually cheer that common sense you see?

I get that. So, if the debt ceiling is not raised, we miss the deadline, then the executive branch begins closure of other areas to pay the debts right?

Maybe they sell off Department of Education assets, or refuse to pay workmen for a bridge. But is that re-arrangement of funds not overseen by the Executive branch? I realize enough money is coming into the federal government to cover the debt, but the Executive branch has the reigns do they not?

Is it not theoretically possible that the president (and the senate if needs must), take us into a default deliberately. Not saying that is what is planned, or what is constitutional, but could Obama do it?

BTW, if you can take the culture shock, I do recommend Texas.

Do you know Texas is the only state with its own power grid? Our lights will be on when everyone else is in the dark. ( barring an EMP, of course)

But a real Texan , not your Austin liberal, can be a tough nut to crack. Texans admire strength of character.

It has been my experience, that the rich dine with the poor, because they LIKE each other, not because of their income. The Texans I know put relationships above income. They are real people.

I know this for fact. At least within the circles I travel.

Those without it can leave, and we say good riddance and lose no sleep over it.

I'm guessing you'll get a fair number of answers telling you to STAY OUT. Perhaps a few cutting remarks about Yankees and some aspersions cast on your conservative creds in general.

I am too tired to have clearer thinking right now .

But Sarah Palin did a good job of explaining some of this in the following

I'll think about this more tomorrow. I'm really tired but i just think the media is all about lies and there is no crisis nor can there be. Obama can't crash capitalism even if it tried

The US is being turned into Canada with limited freedom, high taxes, multiple cultures and languages, no national defense, and very lousy healthcare. Now I would hate for that to happen, but it is not like Canadians are all dying in the streets or are all destitute and unemployed. Since you are considering joining a commune, it sounds like you would actually do well adapting to a socialized US.

Texas sucks.

Is Senator Ted Cruz included in your sweeping characterization? What about Congresman Louie Gohmert? Likewise is Congressman Ted Poe also painted by that broadbrush generalization that "Texas sucks"? Does Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott also "suck" as you so elegantly phrase things? What of Chuck Norris who lives here in North Texas? I suppose he "sucks" as well, right?

Bump!

And OK is pretty close 2nd. We really loved living there.

The secret to happiness is who you live around and associate with.

The sky is not falling around where I live. Life is simple too. I did not say easy, it never will be anywhere.

Everyone has their own criteria, but for my money, Upstate South Carolina is the best place in the country to live. In the research I did to find a new place to live, it came out far on top of all of the others.

I wanted a place with 4 seasons, but mild winters, business-friendly policies, and lower taxes (especially property taxes as I find them the most odious)

They don’t call it the buckle of the bible belt for nothing, so I’m sure you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for in a church.

I moved down three years ago and I absolutely love it. It’s bright, the weather is great, conservatives are the majority, my neighbors are awesome, local talk radio is good. Downtown Greenville is amazing. There are restaurants galore and everything you could ask for is close by when it comes to shopping.

And Trey Gowdy is my congressman! How much better does it get than that? lol

Well, Linda Graham is your senator. How do you feel about that? At least I can say Ted Cruz is my senator.
