Can we please keep comments about the Mormon faith off the political discussion threads?
one man's opinion...

Posted on 05/24/2011 4:07:08 PM PDT by ken5050

As we enter the GOP primary season, I'm starting to notice more and more an annoying trend here in FR. It seems as though everytime there's an article, or someone posts a comment about Romney, either pro or con, it nearly always devolves into an extended, and acrimonious discussion about the Mormon faith. Those who defend it, and those who, for whatever reasons, can't abide it, both sides seem determined to wage an "end of times" batte on all the FR threads. Frankly, I'm tired of it, and just wish it would stop. I think that probably 99% of others here feel the same way.

The question was, can you vote for a non Christian if they are Jewish?

The statement was, "Jews are not Christian" My answer was, "Nor do they claim to be". Not that I'm trying to avoid your new question. My answer to that would be an emphatic yes, I would vote for a Jewish person, if he/she was conservative.

Early church history demonstrates that factionalism among Christians was regularly dealt with through violent means.

Are Mormons supposed to be exempt from this tradition?

If so, why? If not, why?

Speaking of "Orthodoxy" you recall that a Christian Church group managed to affiliate with Smith for a while ~ then, next thing you know, they were out of there.

Funny thing about that was the Christian Church movement sought to restart First Century Christianity ~ and, to a degree not often appreciated (except mostly by the Orthodox themselves) that entailed restarting Orthodoxy in a Protestant dress.

Hmm.

Wonder what the real conflict here was between the Witnesses from the Christian Church movement and Smith? Was it all theological, or did it have more to do with the rejection of Orthodoxy by Smith and a different inner circle that no longer included anybody from DOC?

It's certainly a topic that can be discussed outside of the more recent "bash/rebash" tradition some have gotten into, but I've noticed this sort of exegesis is apparently anathema to mainline LDS types. Any reasons for that?

Is it the case that LDS rejects the Orthodox tradition (of the First Century) while buying into the far more recent Protestant tradition of the 16th Century while claiming origins in the 6th Century BC?

But the Mormons do

The belief came from the stunted minds of Joey Smith and the other mormon leaders

These were lustful men with the immediate gratification through the sins of the flesh as their guidelines

By attreibuting their mormon god with the same sex drives and sins they desired and practiced themselves, they satisfied themselve4s in their warped minds that they were “following the lord”

As mere men who didnt believe in the Divine or the Miraculous they had to have earthly explainations for everything

Any explanation that denied the Christian Bible...

after all they claimed that the Christian Bible was not complete and not translated correcfted

Some “plain and precious” parts had been taken out and lost at some time...

of course they claimed the parts lost were the parts “commanding” joey Smith et al to commit wholesale asultery and have lots of sex partners in order to get into the mormon after life where they would be gods and continue their Playboy mansion life with 100s of very young virgins

(Joey Smith liked to copy from the Mohammats religion)

The mormons believe that the mormon god came down from Kolob or a star close to there and had sex with the 14 yo virgin Mary (child rape, adultery and incest)

It was Briggie Young the Mormon president-of-all-the-world-for-life and crowned king-of-all-the-world who said Christians were ignorant and only the Mormons knew how the mormon jesus was conceived

The natural way just the same way we were said he

Joseph Smith preached:

“God himself, was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens!...it is necessary we should understand the character and being of God and how He came to be so; for I am going to tell you how God came to be God.” (History of the Church, vol. 6, p. 305)

So the mormon god was a normal human man capable of imprenating a human female

On February 8, 1857 Brigham Young explained how God came to be God and fathered Jesus:

Now to the facts in the case; all the difference between Jesus Christ and any other man that ever lived on the earth, from the days of Adam until now, is simply this, the Father, after He had once been in the flesh, and lived as we live, obtained His exaltation, attained to thrones, gained the ascendancy over principalities and powers, and had the knowledge and power to create—to bring forth and organize the elements upon natural principles. This He did after His ascension, or His glory, or His eternity, and was actually classed with the Gods, with the beings who create, with those who have kept the celestial law while in the flesh, and again obtained their bodies. Then He was prepared to commence the work of creation, as the Scriptures teach. It is all here in the Bible; I am not telling you a word but what is contained in that book.

Things were first created spiritually; the Father actually begat the spirits, and they were brought forth and lived with Him. Then He commenced the work of creating earthly tabernacles, precisely as He had been created in this flesh himself, by partaking of the course material that was organized and composed this earth, until His system was charged with it, consequently the tabernacles of His children were organized from the coarse materials of this earth.

When the time came that His first-born, the Saviour, should come into the world and take a tabernacle, the Father came Himself and favoured that spirit [Mary] with a tabernacle INSTEAD OF LETTING ANY OTHER MAN DO IT. The Saviour was begotten by the Father of His spirit, by the same Being who is the Father of our spirits, and that is all the organic difference between Jesus Christ and you and me. And a difference there is between our Father and us consists in that He has gained His exaltation, and has obtained eternal lives. The principle of eternal lives is an eternal existence, eternal duration, eternal exaltation. Endless are His kingdoms, endless His thrones and His dominions, and endless are His posterity; they never will cease to multiply from this time henceforth and forever. (Journal of Discourses, vol. 4, pp. 217-218)

A modern Mormon ???

Sure...

Apostle Bruce R. McConkie explained:

God the Father is a perfected, glorified, holy Man, an immortal Personage. And Christ was born into the world as the literal Son of this Holy Being; he was born in the same personal, real, and literal sense that any mortal son is born to a mortal father. There is nothing figurative about his paternity; he was begotten, conceived and born in the normal and natural course of events, for he is the Son of God, and that designation means what it says. (Mormon Doctrine, by Bruce McConkie, p. 742)

Apostle McConkie explained that there was nothing figurative about Mary’s conception:

And so it is with the Eternal Father and the mortal birth of the Eternal Son. The Father is a Father is a Father; he is not a spirit essence or nothingness to which the name Father is figuratively applied. And the Son is a Son is a Son; he is not some transient emanation from a divine essence, but a literal, living offspring of an actual Father. ... There is nothing figurative or hidden or beyond comprehension in our Lord’s coming into mortality. He is the Son of God in the same sense and way that we are the sons of mortal fathers. (The Promised Messiah, pp. 468-469)

and thus another Mormon doctrine was invented

and DU we have all been through this with you before

But you know I always like to educate the lovely lurkers

Someone said earlier that this mormon belief was disgusting

it is

The God of the Christian Bible is Righteous

Mormonism is NOT Christianity

he's going to have a lot of people looking at his being Mormon rather than at how friggin stupid he is

Yep! 1960 and God-fearing people who had never gotten involved in the dirtiness of politics registered to vote to keep the catholic out of office.

The good outcome is that those I know of stayed involved after that.

1988 and Pat Robertson throws his hat into the ring, and a bunch more folks elevated their involvement, and those I know are still involved.

Folks of the Mormon persuasion will get involved and hopefully stick around to continue casting what I expect would be conservative votes.

Back in the days of Johnny Carson, he had Mel Brooks on the show and made the comment about Mel being of the "Jewish Persuasion". Mel looked right at Johnny and said "I had no choice, there was no persuading"

I also don't respect the person that claims intellect, yet has not sorted out the junk all tied to the founding of the Mormon faith. But I do understand a person having a heritage and being born into a faith.

So when I look at Romney, I have to consider his loyalty to his roots, his track record, any evidence of political integrity.

[And then vote for Sarah!]

Next, why have a religion forum on a political site?

Me!

ME!!!!

This is EASY: to SHOW THE WORLD just what is the DRIVING FORCE in a persons life!

After all; what good is ANY 'religion', if it ain't #1 in a person's life?

It seems that it's the SAME people, over and over again, posting the SAME comments, the SAME pictures, the SAME talking points, the SAME links, the Same scripture..ad nauseum. Can we declare a truce?

I agree completely, but I suspect your post will fall on deaf ears. It's also why no public conservative figures will touch this website with a ten foot pole anymore.

I assume then that we can have conversations about their politics free from religious zealots dragging the conversation to the gutter.

Assume anything you want, DU;

for we will have conversations about their politics free from one-sded religious zealots dragging out their whitewash brush and charging to paint the fence!

Sorry kid

all those Founding Fathers were “apostates” capable of producing NOTHING lasting or of quality or honor according to your mormon “prophet” Joey Smith

Joey Smith never geve anyone born before he invernted his religion of mormonism with any credance or worth

as the Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution 50 years BEFORE Joey Smith was born

and the Founding Fathers were not dead dunked into Mormonism and therefore now acceptable until years AFTER Joey Smith was DEAD

So as Joey Smith believed that the Founding Fathers were lost and their writings and deeds of no redeemimg worth

Joey Smith would not have said anything admirable about them

However the modern mormon rewriters at the SLC Ministry of Truth might have recently put words into Joeys mouth and on his paper

"[And then vote for Sarah!]"

My dream victors would be DeMint/Palin or Palin/DeMint either one but Jim doesn't want anything to do with it so something pretty amazing would have to happen for that pair to be our next President and Vice President. You never know, though, I don't think he would have run for another term in the Senate if it hadn't looked like the Republicans could take both Houses. Maybe if it looks like some soggy RINO is going to be the only alternative, his wife could put up with it, it looks like Republicans can hold their gains and pick up some in the Senate, then if Palin was sort of twisting his arm ...

You can see that I think it's a long shot, but I remember when DeMint winning his first election was considered a long shot, too.

Good morning..just skimming the thread..your comment is spot on..and it’s gonna get much worse.

I still want to see your encore vanity...where you encourage censorship of all terrorist threads where absolutely NO extended discussion of Islam is allowed!

Here, I'll even write it for you, using your current vanity as the "prototype" (the italicized below are the only words I have altered from your "prototype"):

As we enter the season to recognize the 10th anniversary of 9/11, I'm starting to notice more and more an annoying trend here in FR.
