Dream Act Creates Nightmares
Miami Herald ^ | 12/19/2010 | Bruno Pendleton

A full time college student in Florida recently announced his status as an illegal immigrant at a public rally. Jose Salcedo, an elite student at Miami Dade College, fearlessly proclaimed his ‘undocumented’ status in what was said to be a rally of support for the proposed, and recently delayed, DREAM Act. The Dream Act proposes that illegal immigrants brought here when they were babies, toddlers or teens who end up enrolled in college or in the military, be granted citizenship. Salcedo’s announcement and the DREAM Act are further examples of our contradictory immigration policies and enforcement. For this student to have so shamelessly confessed to a crime in public and for Congress to consider modifying a standard which is already so ambiguous, only complicates and confuses the immigration issue. This ambiguity of policy, law, law enforcement, and basic decision making is why it’s difficult to have an informed position on immigration as there is no way of knowing how our current laws would even work because they’re not enforced.

I understand it is not the kid's fault, but this goes too far. Also where is the provision that they find his parents and deport them.

Along these lines, it is my fervent hope that many homosexuals serving in the military will come right out, loud and proud. And then, in 2012, we change the law back and kick them out of the military.

All it really takes is a little whipsaw action, where people can never feel really secure in coming out of the closet, because Who Knows? The law might change again -- in such a climate it wouldn't matter so much if we have DADT: people will just be afraid to be seen as gay and they will shut the hell up.

Have you noticed how all of these illegal alien dreamers are going to some of our best colleges and universities? Who is paying for that? Which American kid lost a spot at that university so some illegal alien could go? I’m surprised at how many of them that the state run “media” says are going to Harvard. What’s up with that? Most are “studying law”. Does America REALLY need more “lawyers”? Especially more America-hating, radical activist “lawyers”? All of the illegal dreamers who are currently going to “law school” need to be deported first. They should be Mexico’s problem, not ours.

I do not understand why these kids cannot go to their home countries and apply for American colleges from there. Don’t foreign students go to American Universities all the time? In addition, are there not jobs in their home countries for well educated bilingual people? I suspect there are. These people have been well educated on our dime. It’s not like we are asking them to pay us back for an education they were not entitled to. And are they thankful? NO they keep agitating for more and whining about how unfair we are to them. What jerks!

How about the fact that we have limited economic and academic resources. Those should go to assist citizens in acquiring a college education before we go about funding educations for non-citizens and illegal immigrants. We won’t last long as a country if we continue to spend public resources on people from other countries when our own citizens are wanting.

Fur Shur. I expect a fair number of the gays in training to immediately come out so they can get a General Discharge now ~ in the future being gay will not be an excuse to drop out.

Just think...

An illegal alien can go to Harvard, and then be elected president of the USA.

What could possibly be wrong with that?

I hope the law can be changed back. But I seriously doubt that it can be.

The courts will rule that it is an established constitutional right. It was headed that way, anyway.

Until the courts are restored to their rightful position as the weakest of the three branches of government, there is no Constitution.

These people have only the open borders crowd to blame for their problems. If it weren’t for the fact that they’ve imported such a vast number of illegal aliens and have undertaken no effort at all to control it, the presence of these people in the colleges would not even receive passing notice by the vast majority of Americans. But when you lump them in with 20 million others who are all expecting the taxpayer to support them, you’ve got a problem, and that means it’s their problem too.

You nailed it!!! That is where the breakdown is occurring in our republic. The "courts" were never meant to have the power that they have now. Those people in the "courts" are totally out of control and have taken away We the People's right to tell the government how the cows ate the cabbage. No one in the government should be "interpreting" the Bill of Rights for US. That's our job to tell the public servants in the government what the Bill of Rights mean. If they don't understand the First and Second Amendments, we are supposed to explain it to them. WE! Not them.

I read earlier the DREAM Act would grant amnesty to people up to freaking 30 years old! And an illegal does not belong in the U.S. military. Stupid idiot fools.

A child that comes with parent has plenty of years for parents & children become a legal citizen. If the age requirement is between 6 & 30 or 35 years of age. I believe that is time to enough to apply for legal citizenship.
