TILDEN TWP., Pa. - A New Jersey State Police trooper asked an officer not to arrest him on shoplifting charges by mentioning he worked on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's security detail, police said. An attorney for William Carvounis confirmed the trooper has worked on Christie's security detail but denied he asked for special treatment. He also denied that Carvounis shoplifted items from the outdoor retailer Cabela's in Tilden Twp., Berks Co., near Hamburg, on Jan. 8.

Cabela’s Incorporated (CAB), the World’s Foremost Outfitter® of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, announced today plans to bring the extraordinary Cabela’s retail experience to customers in Fort Mill, S.C., a suburb of Charlotte, N.C. Construction on the 97,500-square-foot store is scheduled to begin in 2014 and Cabela’s anticipates a spring 2015 opening. It will be Cabela’s second store in South Carolina, joining the Greenville location scheduled to open in spring 2014. Shares have increased by 95% in the last year and are up more than 70% already in 2013. A Bucks County man stole more than $1,000 in ammunition and gun accessories Saturday from Cabela's in Tilden Township, state police said. Craig Holtzman, 41, of Warminster was stopped by state police on Interstate 78 in Greenwich Township at 3:18 p.m., two hours after he took the items from the store, troopers said. Holtzman had fled Cabela's after being confronted by store security, according to troopers. Cabela's employees gave troopers a description of the vehicle, which they pulled over near the Krumsville exit on the interstate, police said. January 1, 2013 brought a host of new taxes, fees, and charges to the American people. Some of them were anticipated. I just received my coupon from Cabela's today in the mail and must say I am both surprised and disappointed. Not only was the amount lowered from $100 to $75 off a $500 purchase, but now it does not apply to firearms. Awhile back, I was talking to several guys at a gun show who remembered when it was $150. The magic of Cabela's is definitely disappearing. Sad.

Cabela's opens its 230,000-square-foot outfitter store/museum May 26 at Interstate 35W and State Highway 170 in far north Fort Worth.
