I just received my coupon from Cabela's today in the mail and must say I am both surprised and disappointed. Not only was the amount lowered from $100 to $75 off a $500 purchase, but now it does not apply to firearms.
Awhile back, I was talking to several guys at a gun show who remembered when it was $150.
The magic of Cabela's is definitely disappearing.
Sad.
I’ve found that guns at the big “outdoors” stores are at least $100 higher than the local gun store, so those coupons were just parity. Too bad.
Exactly.....now what is the reason to shop there? They have a great selection, but the coupons simply brought the prices down to where they could be stomached.
Cabelas is high in everything but then, at least they have it such as ammo.
I’m seeing $10 for a 20rnd box of USGI ammo (Federal XM193).
.50 a round!
Insane, but somebody will buy it.
I was shocked when I went into Cabela’s to look at firearms - I expected a big chain to be able to beat the prices of a small gun store. Boy, was I surprised at the huge markup.
Even more shocking was that people were actually buying them. Don’t get me wrong - I’m glad that guns are being purchased, but I don’t have the money to pay more than I need to for weapons.
I have the Cabela’s credit card....so that combined witht he coupons were nice. Now that there are no more coupons, I will have to rethink any future gun purchases.
Well considering it’s premium I guess .....
I use Gunbroker.com and my pawn shop. NEVER pay retail.
Was just at the Cabela’a in Minneapolis a couple weeks ago. Place was dead. They are probably using Walmart’s strategery of raising prices to make up for lost revenue until they can do a big sale and say “Look at us! We’re lowering prices so you can save more, live better!”
LMAO. Watch, they’ll be having a big sale soon. With no people in the stores, they’ll have to do something.
Yup. What do they charge for a transfer?
Or check out your local store. During Clinton - Bass Pro stopped selling hand guns. Using a local guy may help assure you can find a gun.
...what kind of coupon is it?...the e-mail I got from today was for work clothes and also a sale on gun safes...so far I’ve had no difficulty in using the bonus points that I earn with my Cabela’s visa...business wise, their stock is at a 2 year high and they know how to generate strong cash flow...some reports indicate tougher competition from Bass Pro, Dick’s and WalMart so maybe that’s got something to do with coupon reductions.
Bush’s fault...
WalMart down the road has everything we need - we just go to the range once a month to make sure everything is still sighted in ...
It’s a coupon sent in the mail 4 times a year for $100 off a $500 purchase. And lesser amounts for smaller purchases.....and it was always valid for firearms.
The store in Hamburg is outta sight. Say waht you want, Cabelas among others helped stuff a huge sandpaper coated sausage up the real passage of one Roxanne Quimby and her pals(KOMRADES) in the ban hunting in Maine inative back about five years ago. I’ll buy something or the other from them including the urn for my ashes if they have one in stock.
Caddis
That’s the one where I shop.
Love the store....but this will make future gun purchases not as easy.
That makes sense, but they're definitely going to have to consider changing their business model. The local gun shop near me moves heaven and earth to get a product at a low price.
If they want to fill their stores again, they'll have to lower prices. Is the management run by Democrats or something? :)
They do satisfy my fishing requirements.

...thanks...guess I better pay better attention to the mail(my wife pays all the bills)...btw, a last month I bought an old 1968 Herter’s catalog on ebay...Herter’s was the Cabela’s of that time....the prices back then would break your heart...example: install a crown grade vent rib on a Model 12 Winchester @ $36.00...I recently paid Simmons $450 to do the same job.
