Cabela's opens its 230,000-square-foot outfitter store/museum May 26 at Interstate 35W and State Highway 170 in far north Fort Worth.
The project, which includes a boat showroom and maintenance shop, is expected to draw more than 4 million annual visitors from the northern Texas, Louisiana and southern Oklahoma region.
Under the management of Jeff Lang, the Fort Worth location will be staffed by approximately 500 employees with specialized knowledge of hunting, fishing and camping.

Millions expected to flock to Fort Worth and Buda (Austin) stores, creating number one and number two tourist attractions in state
SIDNEY, NE - Cabela's®, known as the World's Foremost Outfitter® of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, is scheduled to open two stores in Texas this summer. Cabela's Fort Worth location will open May 26, 2005, and the Buda store, near Austin, will open June 30, 2005.
Over four million annual visitors are expected to visit the Fort Worth store, and over three and a half million visitors are expected to visit the Buda store each year, making the retail locations the number one and number two largest tourist attractions in the state.
Like other Cabela's stores, these two are expected to be a major component in area development that includes the building of complementary businesses, such as hotels, restaurants and other travel-related services.

The 230,000-square-foot Fort Worth store is located on a 50-acre site at the interchange of Texas Highway 170 and Interstate 35W. The Fort Worth location, which is larger than the Buda store, will include a boat showroom and maintenance shop. Jeff Lang is the store manager and expects to hire up to 500 employees.
CABELA'S BUDA (AUSTIN) - OPENS JUNE 30, 2005
Cabela's 185,000-square-foot Buda store will anchor a 126-acre development at the interchange of Interstate 35 and Loop 4, approximately 15 miles south of Austin. The store will also employ up to 500 people. Craig Newburn is the store manager.
Each retail store will feature an original bronze sculpture, museum-quality diorama, 40-foot Conservation Mountain, 12,000-square-foot trophy deer museum, 65,000-gallon aquarium (60,000 in the Buda store), and hundreds of wild game trophies displayed in an exceptional showroom. Other highlights include a laser arcade, furniture department, gun library, restaurant, general store, fly fishing shop, bargain cave and gift shop.
"We are thrilled that Texas is Cabela's first location in the southern part of the United States," said Dennis Highby, Cabela's president and CEO. "Texans are passionate about the great outdoors, and our stores serve as a tribute to conservation and wildlife. It's a perfect fit."
The Fort Worth and Buda Cabela's will be the company's eleventh and twelfth retail locations in a line of famous destination stores. Cabela's, headquartered in Sidney, Neb., also operates retail stores in Sidney and Kearney, Neb.; Prairie du Chien, Wis.; Owatonna and East Grand Forks, Minn.; Mitchell, S.D.; Dundee, Mich.; Kansas City, Kan.; Hamburg, Pa.; and Wheeling, W.Va.
You will not be disappointed. I live in Central Texas, but take a road trip every year to visit relatives in Ohio. And every year, I must make the "pilgrimage" across the border to the Dundee, Michigan Cabela's store. I could spend two days there, easy.
Now when they build the store in Buda, what excuse will I have to sneak out on the in-laws when in Ohio? :^)
Do they have any guns? Last I heard, they let the gun inventory walk out of a self-storage locker.
Although they are overpriced...on most of their stuff.
The prices are a little higher than Gander Mountain (30 minutes from my house) but Cabela's has a lot more merchandise and the fish aquariums and stuffed wildlife scenes are amazing!

The 4 million is probably reasonable. The PA store has become one of the state's biggest tourist attractions and may hit the number one spot. It just opened last year I think.
The Dallas-Ft. Worth area is the absolute BEST place to shop and eat.
I was at the Dallas Galleria a couple weekends ago... oh my, where do I start?

I was referring to a payback to Bush for a visit being delusional. It's about retail bucks...nothing more. Nothing political about their decision to locate a retail outlet in Ft. Worth. Good economy in Ft. Worth, lots of outdoors folk and hunters...good decision without politics.
They put one in on I-70 just east of Wheeling in the WV panhandle last year. I haven't stopped yet, but will have to soon.
Drove by their store off I-70 near Washington, PA a couple of weeks ago. Huge facility, unfortunately I missed the exit and still having a long distance to drive didn't double back ... next time I'll stop.
