As families of the lost Challenger astronauts gather with NASA to mark the space shuttle accident's 30th anniversary, there's a new voice to address the crowd. June Scobee Rodgers -- widow of Challenger commander Dick Scobee and longtime spokeswoman for the group -- is passing the torch to daughter Kathie Scobee Fulgham. Fulgham -- not Rodgers -- will be on the stage for Thursday morning's ceremony at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. And making a rare appearance in the audience will be schoolteacher Christa McAuliffe's son, Scott, with his own family.

Natalie Maines infamously spoke her mind about war and then-President George W. Bush back in 2003, when she told a London crowd that she was “ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.” Now, the Dixie Chicks member is bringing that comment back to mind and voicing her opinion on Republican presidential candidate (and fellow Texan) Ted Cruz.

Influential science fiction author and editor David G. Hartwell has died, aged 74. Hartwell edited thousands of books and was nominated for the Hugo Award 41 times. He spent the last 30-plus years as an editor for Tor Books, whose founder Tom Doherty wrote “no editor was more influential in the shaping of science fiction and fantasy than he.” SciFi co-editor Patrick Nielsen Hayden called Hartwell “our field’s most consequential editor since John W. Campbell.” Given Campbell's status as the driving force behind science fiction's Golden Age, that's high praise indeed.

    01/23/2016 10:30:38 AM PST · by Perdogg · 90 replies
Since joining the Trump campaign as a national spokeswoman in November, Katrina Pierson has served as an attack dog of sorts for Donald Trump, attempting to expose his critics and opponents as faux conservatives who are simply pulling the wool over the eyes of the American people. And yet, Ms. Pierson’s own statements reveal she is a self-proclaimed devotee of Malcolm X (whom she has referred to as her “idol”) and has a history of attacking conservatives as racists, sneering at Christians who are unable to “handle the truth” and mocking candidates who open up about their faith on the...

Trump has already picked up the endorsement of virtually every prominent liberal Republican in the Senate, but this latest endorsement may well push him over the top in the minds of many Republican voters. Forget Sarah Palin, Donald Trump has found an even bigger star to tout his cause, and the case she makes is pretty compelling. Watch for yourself: Endorsement

I was water-skiing with my children in a light drizzle off Hyannis, Mass., last month when a sudden, fierce storm plunged us into a melee of towering waves, raking rain, painful hail and midday darkness broken by blinding flashes of lightning. As I hurried to get my children out of the water and back to the dock, I shouted over the roaring wind, "This is some kind of tornado." The fog consolidated and a waterspout hundreds of feet high rose from the white ocean and darted across its surface, landing for a moment on a moored outboard to spin it...

Are the NYPD to blame for The Hateful Eight's dismal box office receipts? Police claim their boycott is the reason the Tarantino film is performing so poorly Quentin Tarantino's 'hateful Eight' is tanking at the box office and police officers boycotting the newest flick are jumping to take credit. The film, which was released on Christmas day, has only grossed $49.2 million - and it may not even cover the $50 million cost of the production budget. The Weinstein Company is set to lose even more money since they spent $25 million to $35 million on prints and promotion, according...
