Are the NYPD to blame for The Hateful Eight's dismal box office receipts? Police claim their boycott is the reason the Tarantino film is performing so poorly

Quentin Tarantino's 'hateful Eight' is tanking at the box office and police officers boycotting the newest flick are jumping to take credit.

The film, which was released on Christmas day, has only grossed $49.2 million - and it may not even cover the $50 million cost of the production budget.

The Weinstein Company is set to lose even more money since they spent $25 million to $35 million on prints and promotion, according to The New York Post.

Didn't Harvey Weinstein say he was never going to do a movie that showed gun violence?

I would imagine the title might have something to do with its lack of success. Plus it got bad reviews, I think.

Maybe Quentin should have kept his pie-hole shut.

It’s basically more to do with Tarantino shooting off his mouth about cops in general. I don’t think that just the NYPD could cause this mess of a movie to tank.

Hollywood is filled with liars.

Too bad it has made as much as it has.

Doesn’t Quentin Tarantino make the same movie over and over and over again

I’ve seen every Tarantino movie, I refuse to watch this one.

I certainly HOPE that the movie is tanking because of the NYPD. Even Tarantino’s dear old dad disagrees with his view of the police. He can say whatever he wants, it’s a free country; we are free to boycott whatever we want, also.

I don't care about Quentin Tarantino's politics and I saw this movie and I thought it was pretty good.

Stephen Colbert making fun of Conservatives on his late night show? That I refuse to watch.

Even if you decided to watch it, you’re lucky to make it past the first 15 minutes of it ... it is that frigging boring and predictable.

How many times is Samuel L. Jackson going to appear in a Tarantino movie? Are they sleeping together or something?

Ugliness. There’s enough of it around without paying 10.00 for it.

Do we leave out the foreign take of 17 million so far? I love how these OPs always out and out lie about how much a movie makes as if the United States is the only place that counts towards how much a movie makes.

Maybe “shock-schlock” films are not very good entertainment any more. Only so much decadence can be tolerated by most people, and this particular production was a little over the top.

What kind of movies make money? Make more of them. What kind of shows are almost universally booed and disrespected? Make fewer or none of them.

The marketplace is speaking up.

I guess the New York City whinner found out he liked money more.

It’s not doing well because it’s a slow moving 3+ hour long Western.

I was boycotting Tarentino long before this movie. I just don’t find gratuitous violence and gore entertaining.

Is it slow for today’s audience with a collective ADHD? You are correct. But I enjoyed the character development in the movie and its gradual build up to climax.
