Alaska's first full mammoth skeleton may be lurking under Arctic lake. When an aquatic ecologist was surveying shallow lakes in Northwest Alaska three years ago, she and the pilot who traveled with her came upon an unusual sight in the treeless Arctic region: a pair of terns that kept flying around and perching on what appeared to be a log sticking out of a muddy area. The protruding object, it turns out, was no log. It was the large and well-preserved leg bone of a woolly mammoth. Right by it was another bone, perfectly articulated, that was clearly from the same leg.

“It was like the mammoth just (lay) over there,” said Amy Larsen, the National Park Service ecologist surveying the site in Bering Land Bridge National Preserve.

I had always thought there were many (dozens) of complete mammoth remains discovered in Alaska.

Turns out that was another myth (along with global warming).

I should have known; after all, I am skeptoid

Lurkers can be good. But they won’t say anything about it.

I think we need to clone dozens of these creatures and release them in the epicenter of the next Ferguson or Baltimore.

When Quinn the Eskimo gets there, everybody’s gonna jump for joy.
But this was a boney and not meaty creature, so the joy will be muted.

A hank of hair and a piece of bone,
She’s my wooley Honeycomb.

Her father was Fuzzy Wuzzy,
A sloth-like bear.
But Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair.

Thus, Father Fuzzy Wuzzy
Wasn’t really fuzzy,
Was he?
