Just months after the Iowa premiere of the pro-Sarah Palin documentary "The Undefeated," the world will get a glimpse of the former Alaska Governor from a different - and likely more critical - cinematic perspective: In September, acclaimed documentary filmmaker Nick Broomfield, who directed "Kurt & Courtney" and "Biggie & Tupac," will debut "Sarah Palin - You Betcha!" at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), which runs from Sept. 8-18. Unlike the flattering portrait of Palin touted in "The Undefeated," which was made with the former vice presidential candidate's cooperation by a conservative filmmaker, Broomfield's goal was "cracking her story,"...

In the hours after Sen. John McCain announced his choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his running mate in the last presidential race, members of an online forum called Journolist struggled to make sense of the pick. Many of them were liberal reporters, and in some cases their comments reflected a journalist’s instinct to figure out the meaning of a story. But in many other exchanges, the Journolisters clearly had another, more partisan goal in mind: to formulate the most effective talking points in order to defeat Palin and McCain and help elect Barack Obama president. The tone...

Sarah Palin announced Wednesday that she will campaign for Sen. John McCain, her former presidential running mate, as he bids for another term in the Senate. She'll also stump for conservative up-and-comer Rep. Michele Bachmann and Texas Gov. Rick Perry in early 2010.

By SARAH PALIN Writing in the New York Times last month, President Barack Obama asked that Americans "talk with one another, and not over one another" as our health-care debate moves forward. I couldn't agree more. Let's engage the other side's arguments, and let's allow Americans to decide for themselves whether the Democrats' health-care proposals should become governing law. Some 45 years ago Ronald Reagan said that "no one in this country should be denied medical care because of a lack of funds." Each of us knows that we have an obligation to care for the old, the young and...

A Republican political consultant and pollster predicts former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will continue to gain prominence in the GOP leading up to the 2012 election, even though she's no longer in office. Sarah Palin has reportedly received more than 950 requests to give speeches and more than 120 candidates have asked her to appear for them at campaign events. Clemson University political scientist Dave Woodard believes Palin is an "extremely appealing" candidate. "She's been proven, especially, and tested with her daughter and her own decisions about her son and her marriage. She is a very popular fundraiser. People will...

It was a year ago today that Sarah Palin walked onto the national stage and raised us up. Those of us who were fed up with a limp GOP moving center left were thrilled with a principled conservative, a rugged individualist VP pick. It saved a McCain campaign on life support. McCain had it right when introducing her. He said, "she's exactly what we need, she's exactly what this country needs". Bingo.

President Obama's health care "reform" plan has met with significant criticism across the country. Many Americans want change and reform in our current health care system. We recognize that while we have the greatest medical care in the world, there are major problems that we must face, especially in terms of reining in costs and allowing care to be affordable for all. However, as we have seen, current plans being pushed by the Democratic leadership represent change that may not be what we had in mind -- change which poses serious ethical concerns over the government having control over our...

WASHINGTON (CNN) – It looks like Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin may have one less fan. On the same day that Palin is set to transfer power to her lieutenant governor, Republican strategist Alex Castellanos said her prospects for national office looked grim. “’I’ve been a supporter of Sarah Palin — at times,” Castellanos said Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union. “She gave the McCain campaign its best two weeks. But, you know, if we’re going to be critical of Democrats when they shirk their responsibilities, we have do the same within our own house. She abandoned her state in...

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin plans to remain extremely visible and will give serious consideration to running for president in 2012, but has made no decision, a close friend said after her startling announcement Friday that she will resign her office. Friends say Palin plans to spend time writing her book, which is due this fall, then promote it heavily when it comes out in spring 2010. Palin is by far the Republican Party's biggest draw for fund-raisers and conservative events, and the friends say she plans to spend a lot of time traveling in "the lower 48" states, as Alaskans...

JUNEAU, Alaska, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said she would refuse a $25,000 pay raise during her current term as Alaska governor. A state commission recommended boosting the governor's pay to $150,000 from $125,000. The five-member state Officers Compensation Commission, created by the state Legislature, also said legislators needed more money, along with the lieutenant governor and government department heads, the Anchorage Daily News reported. If the commission pushes ahead with a pay raise, Palin will not accept the money, spokesman Bill McAllister said. "Her view is, it's just not appropriate to accept a...

Men at a rally in Indiana for Sarah Palin on Friday. (Michael Conroy/The Associated Press) BANGOR, Maine: It is not unusual for fans of Sarah Palin to shout out to the Alaska governor in the midst of her stump speeches. It is noteworthy that the crowds are heavily male. "You rock me out, Sarah," yelled one man, wearing a red-checked hunting jacket as Palin, the Republican vice-presidential candidate, strode into an airplane hangar here on Thursday. He held a homemade "Dudes for Sarah" sign and wore a National Rifle Association hat. Kenny Loggins's "Danger Zone" blared over the loudspeakers, and...

With the global rise of political Islamism, many pundits have recently begun paying closer attention to the writings of Egyptian scholar and Muslim Brotherhood publicist Sayyid Qutb (1906-1966), whose radical Milestones and 30-volume In the Shade of the Koran are said to be masterpieces of jihadist thought and persuasion. These writings, which some analysts consider to be an ideological influence on violent Islamist movements such as al-Qaida, contain an uncompromising anti-Western slant that Qutb supports with observations from his travel experiences in the United States. In these classic jihadist works, Qutb is never all that specific about how and where...
