Imagine that you’re a makeup artist or a production manager on a Marvel movie. You’re working long hours and barely have time to shop for groceries or get in any exercise, let alone do yardwork or socialize. But what if your house was a pleasant 10-minute stroll from the studio, during which you passed a craft beer bar and outdoor concert stage? You’re too tired when you get home to think about grocery shopping, but that’s OK, because the delivery robot has just rolled up in front of your house with your weekly order. That’s the almost-too-utopian promise of Trilith, the...

SEATTLE - The Salvation Army is facing a shortage of toys and donations ahead of the holiday season, and urge communities to find a way to help. The nonprofit reports it gets 75% of total annual donations during November and December, and they are once again in need of support. That help can come in the form of an online donation at the virtual Northwest Red Kettle."There are many reasons why both financial and toy donations are down this year, not the least of which is likely pandemic fatigue and concerns about employment and the future," said Colonel Cindy Foley of...

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Matthew Hawn checked his phone to see if the wait was finally over. It had been five months since he was fired for teaching about White privilege at a high school in rural Tennessee. Two months since he had fought to regain his job at an emotional three-day hearing, becoming a symbol of the acrimonious debate over the way race, racism and history should be taught in America's schools. A lifelong resident of Kingsport, Hawn was well aware his liberal views made him an outlier in his overwhelmingly White, mostly conservative community. But that had never mattered...

Lack of representation in corporate boardrooms is not because of mythical white privilege. It is due to the breakdown of the black family. We haven’t yet reached the spectacle in which woke workplace zealots demand that NBA teams suit up at least one black, one white, one Asian, and one Hispanic player in their starting line-ups, but some private workplaces are coming close. The human resources protocols of one of the world’s largest financial investment firms are taking woke quotas to a surreal new level.According to the Times of London, hiring managers at State Street Global Advisors will need to seek...

The attack on Pearl Harbor was "Japan's attempt to roll back Euro-American colonialism." A University of North Carolina course titled "Global Whiteness" blames the West in general and the United States in particular for Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor and the subsequent Pacific Theater battles of World War II. Campus Reform obtained the syllabus for the course that characterizes the Pacific Theater fight as "the first global attack on white Anglo-American hegemony" and "Japan's attempt to roll back Euro-American colonialism." The course's required text is Theodore Allen's The Invention of the White Race, vol. 2: The Origin of Racial Oppression...

...parents in Dallas just got a wake-up call. The local Black Lives Matter group Dallas Justice Now launched a new campaign, urging white parents in wealthy Highland Park to sign a pledge to keep their children back from America’s top colleges — in the name of “equity.” The organization’s letter to parents lays on the guilt thick. “We are writing to you because we understand you are white and live within the Highland Park Independent School District and thus benefit from the enormous privileges taken at the expense of communities of color,” Dallas Justice Now writes to parents in the...

Tony Kinnett was working toward his master’s degree in education at Ball State University when a fellow graduate student told him he should feel guilty for being white during class. Kinnett told the Washington Free Beacon his classmate was simply parroting what future teachers learn in graduate school. Critical race theory is “all they know, and all they’ve been taught,” said Kinnett, now the science coordinator for Indianapolis Public Schools. Once, in a course on education policy and pedagogy, Kinnett argued that teachers shouldn’t be afraid to fail students who don’t perform to standard. A peer chimed in and said...

'In the classroom, free speech does not apply,' a workshop spokeswoman said. 'As instructors, we can tell our students no, you do not have the right to say that, stop talking right now.' According to newly released video footage, University of Oklahoma instructors want to punish students who defy campus orthodoxy. Their plan is to “avoid ‘a rhetoric of dysfunctional silence’ that closes ears to marginalized voices,” by — you guessed it — silencing marginalized voices. On Tuesday, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), a nonprofit focused on protecting campus free speech, publicized video footage of an April...

The accusation that America is deeply, irredeemably stained by systemic racism is not up for debate. No white person can be innocent. Your individual conscience is irrelevant. Each one of us is a white supremacist benefitting from a white supremacist structure. We must confess our "white privilege." So, if we're so overwhelmingly dominant, why can't we disagree? The news media, which imagines itself as the essence of flowering democracy, is in reality a force for suppressing all dissent from the "racial justice" or "Black Lives Matter" narrative. Debating the left is a sign of "white fragility," that one cannot accept...

After getting drafted in the mid-1960s as the Vietnam War intensified, I saw all my fellow Soldiers as “olive drab green.” Despite my childhood immigration from Nicaragua, going back there didn’t cross my mind. Nor did fleeing to Canada like about 125,000 draft dodgers. Ironically, my father who came to California from Nicaragua in the 1940s was also conscripted and saw combat in Europe for two years. Following the war, he returned to Central America for me and my mother so we could move to San Francisco and pursue the American dream. I worked hard in the corporate and government...

Viewers and fans of the popular "Jeopardy!" quiz show were dismayed when none of the contestants were able to answer the clue based on very elementary knowledge of U.S. History. The show aired Tuesday and was being hosted by "Big Bang Theory" actress and neuroscientist Mayim Bialik. During a round of Double Jeopardy, contestant Robin Lozano chose the "Quotations" category for $800. Bialik gave him the clue from a very famous speech. "'Government of the people, by the people, for the people' is from the end of this brief but powerful speech," she said. The seconds ticked away before the...

In 1976, Dick Vermeil took over as coach of the Philadelphia Eagles who were coming off a last-place finish and one of the worst teams in the NFL the year before. During training camp, Vermeil held a tryout for a 30-year-old teacher and bartender, who never played college football. His name was Vince Papale and Vermeil added him to the team’s roster. It was meant to bring a culture and attitude change to the locker room. His story later became the basis for the 2006 biopic Invincible yet despite this underdog story and triumphant tale, Stephen A. Smith would have...

Wherever we turn, race is the issue. Any problem that we face, race must be at the root of it. At least, that’s the way it feels in America these years. Any outcome that we do not like, any narrative that we reject, any person with whom we have a problem – all of it must be traced back to race. This is as dishonest as it is destructive, and if we really care about equality and justice, we had better reevaluate our strategy, and we had better do it quickly. I’m reminded of a humorous story my dad told...

Co-host Max Kellerman suggested Tebow should highlight that Colin Kaepernick hasn't had a chance at a comeback ----------------- ESPN "First Take" host Stephen A. Smith took aim at former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Tim Tebow on Thursday, arguing that "white privilege" was a factor in his NFL comeback at age 33 after years out of the league. Tebow signed a one-year contract this week with the Jacksonville Jaguars after spending the last several years pursuing a professional baseball career in the New York Mets’ minor league system. During Thursday’s episode of "First Take," Smith said he "had a problem" with the...

The Hermosa Beach City School District recently hired a diversity, equity and inclusion consultant who will help train teachers about their white privilege, among other duties. The decision has prompted anger and frustration among a group of parents who argued against infusing race and privilege trainings into the very small public school district, located in a coastal city south of Los Angeles and consisting of two elementary schools and a middle school. But the school board members who made the decision to hire Loyola Marymount University psychology Professor Sheri Atwater to serve as the district’s diversity, equity and inclusion consultant...
