Pfizer Inc and its German partner, BioNTech SE, fired back at Moderna Inc on Monday in a patent lawsuit over their rival COVID-19 vaccines, seeking dismissal of the lawsuit in Boston federal court and an order that Moderna's patents are invalid and not infringed. Moderna first sued Pfizer in August, accusing the company of violating its rights in three patents related to innovations that Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Moderna said it pioneered before the COVID-19 pandemic. The US labor force participation rate fell for a third straight month in November, underscoring businesses’ ongoing struggle to find enough workers. The share of Americans either working or actively looking for a job fell to 62.1%, according to government data released Friday. The world's largest active volcano has erupted in Hawaii for the first time in nearly four decades, officials said. Mauna Loa erupted at 11:30 p.m. local time Sunday (4:30 a.m. ET Monday), the U.S. Geological Survey said. The Reserve Bank’s role in shoring up Australia’s economy during the Covid pandemic has seen it post an accounting loss for the 2021-22 year of almost $37bn, leaving it with negative equity, the bank’s deputy governor, Michele Bullock, has revealed.
