The discovery, said Dr. Scott Stripling, is consistent with what he expected to find in the fields of the ancient city where the tabernacle for the Ark of the Covenant once stood. “When the news reached Joab, who had conspired with Adonijah though not with Absalom, he fled to the tent of the Lord and took hold of the horns of the altar” (1 Kings 2:28). This passage in the Bible may have come to life just a few weeks ago for a team of 200 archaeologists and volunteers, who have been excavating in the field of ancient Shiloh. This...
  • Building A House For His name... Solomon pt 5

And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David. And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying, Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet. But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary...

The well-known Mormon Tabernacle Choir was renamed Friday to strip out the word Mormon in a move showing the faith’s new president is serious about ending shorthand names for the religion that have been used for generations by church members and previously promoted by the church. The gospel singing group will now be called the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said in a statement. It’s a nod to the home of the choir for the last 150 years, the Tabernacle, located on church grounds known as Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake...

Biblical tabernacle search under way At the site of an ancient city on the West Bank, archaeologists are hunting for evidence of the tabernacle that once housed the Ark of the Covenant. Associates for Biblical Research, a consortium of individuals and universities, recently completed four weeks of excavation in Shiloh with the goal of eventually locating the tabernacle.

Pressure is mounting on the famed Mormon Tabernacle Choir to not perform at president-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony in January, but the choir is not backing down. In a Friday statement to The Daily Caller, the choir responded to an online petition that wants to the choir not to sing at Trump’s inauguration. The statement said while the group has received “mixed reactions,” it will still perform for the 58th Inauguration in Washington, D.C. just as it has done in the past. A tabernacle stolen Thursday night from Our Lady of Lourdes Church was found on Friday morning, damaged beyond repair.Henry Gaudon, project manager for the parish, was at a loss to understand why someone would steal something considered sacred in the Catholic church.A tabernacle is a fixed, locked box in which, in some Christian churches, the Eucharist is "reserved" (stored). The Bay St. George RCMP received a report at 8:10 p.m. Thursday of a break, enter and theft into Port au Port Peninsula church. A television and wall mount were also reported stolen.Gaudon said Fr. Gerard Patry went into the dimly...

Archaeologists discover holes carved into the ground in Shiloh which could have held the beams of The Tabernacle or Tent of Meeting, which, according to the Bible, housed the Ark of the Covenant. A model of the Tabernacle at Timna Park in Israel << 1 2 >> The Tabernacle or Tent of Meeting -- which, according to the Bible, housed the Ark of the Covenant -- was a temporary structure made of wooden beams and fabric, not materials cut out for thousands of years of survival. This is a Torah class (in English interspersed with translated Hebrew verses from Torah) about one particular detail of the building of the Tabernacle, found in Exodus 38:21-29. The Torah mentions "vavin" (hooked nails that resembled the Hebrew letter 'vav.') Jews-- it's fascinating. If you haven't listened to a Torah shiur give it a try. The overall lesson of the class is that every Jew is a part of the Torah (spoiler--the "vavin," which are technically outside the boundary of the Tabernacle since they were pointed outward from the outermost poles, and the outer walls were hung on these hooks....

PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The Provo City Fire Department has released the full report on the December Provo Tabernacle fire. The 135-page report outlines events leading up to the fire from December 17th that destroyed the historic landmark in Provo. Trax Lighting and AV arrived at the Tabernacle a few days before the fire to setup lighting for a concert that was to be taped by BYU Broadcasting. During the setup of a lighting truss, a technician said he set aside two lamps that were part of the in-house lighting system. Fire officials believe these lights were placed...

The man Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, once stood before the Sanhedrin (a legal body composed of the high priest, leaders of the people, and legal experts) and established God does not dwell in items made with hands (Acts 7:48). Yet, God chose to make His presence known within the earth, the tabernacle, and Solomon’s temple. God also commanded the temple built by Zerubbabel as a place for His name. These were not places where God lived, but those which He made holy by his association with them. Scripture identifies three other holy dwelling places of God not made...

That’s the formal instruction of Bishop John D’Arcy of Fort Wayne-South Bend, Ind., in a statement posted at his diocesan website. Bishop D’Arcy was front and center of the controversy that erupted over the University of Notre Dame’s decision to honor President Barack Obama at its commencement in May. As the Catholic college’s diocesan bishop, Bishop D’Arcy publicly denounced the university’s decision. His statement promulgating norms for tabernacle placement in his diocese, instructing that it be placed in a central and visible location in diocesan churches, won’t excite the same kind of national controversy as the commencement scandal. For many...
  • The Tabernacle of Moses — what is it?

What is the Tabernacle? A visual dwelling Tabernacle means “tent,” “place of dwelling” or “sanctuary.” It was a sacred place where God chose to meet His people, the Israelites, during the 40 years they wandered in the desert under Moses’ leadership. It was the place where the leaders and people came together to worship and offer sacrifices. The tabernacle was first erected in the wilderness exactly one year after the Passover when the Israelites were freed from their Egyptian slavery (circa 1450 B.C.). It was a mobile tent with portable furniture that the people traveled with and set up...

In describing the people qualified to construct the Sanctuary and its instruments, the Torah repeatedly calls them "wise-in-heart" in referring to their skill. The craftsmanship these artisans possessed was more than technical, their wisdom was a special sort -- that of the heart. Some people are brilliant intellectually, their gifted minds master sciences, their logic and reasoning are unimpeachable. Despite these mind-gifts they may be cold, unsympathetic, unmoved by suffering. Others are kindlier, charitable, more emotional by nature, not particularly given to analysis and profound understanding. They may also be overindulgent, gullible, suspicious of or impatient with reasoning. While each...

The dominant theme of the Torah portion is the description of the Sanctuary and all its components. The Torah is explicit and exacting, unusually so, in all the specifications. The Sanctuary played a vital role in Jewish history, whether as the mobile Tabernacle in the Wilderness, the Temples in Jerusalem, or the contemporary Synagogue. In view of its importance, the attention it receives is fully warranted. Many influences helped insure the perpetuation and thriving of Judaism. The school -- and Jewish schooling was never meant for children only -- produced scholars and highly literate laymen. The home transmitted skills and...

When you go through the streets you see buildings which are quite different from warehouses or cinemas or living-houses or shops or public-houses. Sometimes they have towers or pointed windows instead of square ones, but there is always something about them which makes you say, "That is a church" or possibly a "chapel." There is also usually a board outside them with a name upon it and hours of "services." Sometimes these churches are open; if they are Catholic ones, they nearly always are. But a man might well feel too shy to go in, at any rate without being...

Today, I went to Mass, and as I was entering the church, before the Mass had started, there was a group of people "carrying on" in the vestuble. There was a handful of them, so their voices carried into the nave. The priest hearing Confession could hear them conversing, and he was seated near the sanctuary. There were people in there already praying, so I thought what they were doing was inconsiderate. Even more important, there were acting irreverently in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. When Mass ended, they did the exact same thing. I decided to say something...

Nothing else was taken.Inside the tabernacle were two ciboria - vessels containing wafers of holy altar bread which, at the consecration of the Mass, Catholics consider the body of Christ.
