SIERRA VISTA - It was a fast-paced 90 minutes of singing and dancing but for many in the audience this year's Soldier Show came to an end too soon. There were about 600 who watched Thursday's 5 p.m. performance - it was followed by a second one at 8 p.m. - at the Buena Performing Arts Center. Wednesday night, about 1,100 saw the show. OPERATION GRATITUDE...is the nonprofit, all-volunteer organization that sends care packages and letters of support to soldiers deployed overseas. Its mission is to lift morale, put a smile on a service member's face and express the appreciation of the American people for the sacrifices of the men and women defending our freedom. To date, Operation Gratitude has sent 8300 care packages to individual soldiers in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Korea, Kosovo and onto ships all over the world. As we gathered on the corner of Shaw and Blackstone last night, we were met with honks and thumbs-up from the Fresno motorists. We are becoming a familiar sight again. The last couple of weeks, it took the motorists a little while to decide what we were doing there. Now the horn honking is starting much sooner. In fact, we received a couple of honks before we could get our signs set up. FriendAnn and I arrived just before five o'clock. There were no peacenics on the opposite corner. There was a fairly strong breeze and at times it seemed...

<p>The classic tv favorite "Green Acres" began production in 1965. The show, which took place in Hooterville, home of Petticoat Junction (1963-1970), was part of a series of "rural" series from CBS in the 1960's. (Other "rural" series include Petticoat Junction, The Andy Griffith Show, The Beverly Hillbillies, and Gomer Pyle) Green Acres was a favorite in the top twenty some seasons. In 1971, after 170 episodes had been produced, CBS decided to change it's image. This meant the cancelation of many classic favorites. Many shows were cancelled in 1971.
