To answer your first question, no, Jaden Agassi never really got into tennis. Oh, he’s dabbled in the sport associated with his world-famous parents, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf. But that usually just results in Jaden smacking the ball as hard as he can, with no regard for the rules or the lines. His mom and dad can have their 30 combined Grand Slam singles titles. Jaden just wants to hit grand slams. “I love baseball,” he says. “I love the teammates, surviving and fighting with your brothers. Every game comes with a new set of challenges, and I really...

The SEC is delaying the start of its college football season. Per multiple reports, the conference is implementing a 10-game conference-only schedule for each team similar to the ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12. But unlike those three conferences, the SEC is also moving the start of football season back. The first SEC games will kick off on Sept. 26, three weeks after the original Week 1 start date on Labor Day weekend. The delay means that the SEC Championship Game won’t be played until Dec. 19 instead of Dec. 5.

The NCAA will permit college athletes to wear patches on their uniforms that promote and support social justice causes. As approved by the NCAA’s Playing Rules Oversight Panel, athletes in all sports will be permitted to “express support and voice their opinions” in two places on their uniforms: one on the front or sleeve of the uniform or on the nameplate on the back of the uniform — the spot typically reserved for the athlete’s last name. The patches can also be for “commemorative and memorial purposes,” not solely for social issues. Predictably, the messages will require approval by “the...

Only one division will be recognized this year, with the teams holding the two highest winning percentages advancing to the ACC Championship game. That will be held at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on December 12 or 19.

There are two stunning things in this ESPN report. The first is the behavior attributed to Chinese coaches at NBA facilities, which apparently included physically abusing players in their young teens. The second stunning thing is that the NBA knew about all of this before the dust up last year about Houston Rocket’s General Manager Daryl Morey’s tweet supporting human rights in Hong Kong.ESPN reports that the League set up three NBA training facilities in China in 2016 including one Xinjiang, the province where China has sent around 1 million minorities to re-education camps in the past few years....

BOSTON (CBS) — Brad Marchand’s Wednesday morning in Toronto began with a bang, as the Bruins’ star winger fired off an emotional tweet directed at a Boston Globe reporter. “Are you [expletive] serious Porter?” Marchand tweeted at Boston Globe reporter Matt Porter. “This here is why you are part of the problem.” The tweet came in response to Porter sharing a screen shot of Tuukka Rask being interviewed on NBC Sports while wearing a Boston Police hat. That tweet was attached to another tweet, which shared the statement from Bruins players expressing their plan to lock arms during the national...

Meanwhile, the NFL’s Twitter account has been sharing and celebrating pictures of players...

**SNIP** NHL players from the 24 playoff teams woke up to their new reality Monday in the hub cities of Toronto and Edmonton, Alberta. Quarantined bubble life began with the league reporting zero positive coronavirus test results last week, and this existence away from the public is scheduled to last until the Stanley Cup is awarded in the fall. “We asked our group right from the start just to keep open minds because everything’s going to change, everything’s fluctuating constantly, daily, minutely,” Minnesota coach Dean Evason said. “It’s different. You’ve got a walkway with fences. People can’t see in. You...

Cities, colleges and even the US Capitol are seeing growing battles over statues or building names after the killing of George Floyd. The University of Mississippi is facing a fight over its very identity. Like other universities, the state's flagship campus in Oxford is not generally addressed by its full name. For more than a century, it's been called Ole Miss. It sounds like folksy shorthand for Old Mississippi. The term's actual origin is more unsettling.
