Cities, colleges and even the US Capitol are seeing growing battles over statues or building names after the killing of George Floyd.
The University of Mississippi is facing a fight over its very identity.
Like other universities, the state's flagship campus in Oxford is not generally addressed by its full name. For more than a century, it's been called Ole Miss. It sounds like folksy shorthand for Old Mississippi. The term's actual origin is more unsettling.

Once we’re done renaming all things of the Confederacy then all things with Indian names will be next.
Sports media will soon cease using the term 0le Miss and a blue chip football recruit will say he will not play for a school with the name Ole Miss and that will be the end of the name Ole Miss.
A nickname often speaks to a past. Moronic question.
Are You Ready?
Hell Yeah! Damn Right!
Hotty Toddy, Gosh Almighty,
Who The Hell Are We? Hey!
Flim Flam, Bim Bam
Ole Miss By Damn!

Satisfaction for those who are offensive by being is not available. In the words of the prince of Denmark, BLM has chosen to be........offensive and racist
BLM offends all that is America by being. BLM is existentially racist to the core and as such is offensive to all good Americans be they white , yellow, black, red or beige.
Just put an accent mark on the “e” and it changes the meaning. Bull fighting could be somewhat like football.
As a Mississippi State grad, all I can say is BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
You left us hanging. What unconscious racism are we guilty of this morning?
Stir the pot for new problems since we don’t have any right now.
Its not a racist past, its THEIR past.
Not as far as I know.
They banned Colomel Rebel, then the state flag, now they want their name itself. Phuck CNN. How about we fight back for once?
