  • Feminists for Life remembers pro-life supporter Sargent Shriver

Alexandria, VA. - Feminists for Life of America remembers the many contributions of Sargent Shriver who died in a Bethesda, Maryland, hospital on January 18, 2011, at 95 years old. Robert Sargent Shriver, Jr., graduated from Yale in 1938 and Yale Law School in 1941. After Shriver married Eunice Kennedy in 1953, they settled in Chicago. Shriver was a strong advocate for civil rights and integration, who persuaded then-candidate and U.S. senator "Jack" Kennedy to personally call the King family after Martin Luther King, Jr., was jailed in Georgia. Shriver was appointed the first director of the Peace Corps by...

As a former Special Olympian, Jim, in this RVO blog posting, YOU NAILED IT.This is just too much and hard to take seriously, except … well I do, and tells much about the left and their supposed sensitivity to “diversity”. Jus to recap: In August WH Chef Rahm Emanuel meets with Democrats. During that meeting Rahm drops the “R” word.

The Special Olympics is disputing the White House claim that its chairman, Tim Shriver, accepted Rahm Emanuel's apology for calling liberals "retarded." Seeking to damp down the controversy over Rahm Emanuel's reported, months-old use of the word, a White House official yesterday told me and other reporters that Emanuel had called Special Olympics Chairman Tim Shriver to apologize. "The apology was accepted," the official said yesterday. The vice president for communications at the Special Olympics, Kirsten Seckler, told me that this account of the conversation is "inaccurate." "Tim didn't accept his apology," she said. "Tim can't do that. He can't...

If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes? If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan's holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would...

For decades, museums and textbooks confidently asserted that mud rocks—such as limestone, siltstone, mudstone, and shale—were formed over vast eons as super-fine sediments slowly settled to the bottom of shallow lakes or seas. But new flume studies are challenging old ways of thinking about mud rock formation...

I had the honor of attending the 2009 Indiana State Special Olympics Games at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. Watching these athletes compete is truly inspiring. They compete for the shear joy of competing. Walking through the crowds of competitors, I was repeatedly shown medals and ribbons, proudly displayed. Mr. President, I truly wish you could have witnessed the effort these athlete put forth. Perhaps then, you would understand just how hurtful your comments were.

Man arrested, accused of throwing metal object at Special Olympics kids 7:18 AM | June 4, 2009 A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and committing a hate crime after he allegedly threw a metal bolt at participants running in the Special Olympics Torch Run in Valencia, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. Deputies from the sheriff’s Santa Clarita station were running with the children in the torch run at about 3:25 p.m. at the intersection of McBean Parkway and Arroyo Park Drive when a man inside a vehicle began yelling at...

President Barack Obama, in an appearance on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno, made a self-deprecating but ill-advised joke, in which he referred to the Special Olympics. He quickly apologized. Crisis averted. Fair enough. But the real story is the media double standard: Imagine the uproar if a President John McCain made the Special Olympics comment. For that matter, imagine if a President McCain mistook a White House window for a door; his secretary of Treasury had not paid taxes; he granted two dozen waivers to his no-lobbyists-in-government rule; and he had promised bipartisanship but got only three across-the-aisle votes...

Momlogic spoke with the mom of a Special Olympics athlete to get her reaction to Obama's unfortunate crack on "The Tonight Show." Carolyn McClamrock: Initially, my husband and I were just in shock when we heard Obama's comments about the Special Olympics on "The Tonight Show." Obama said a recent 129 he scored in the White House bowling alley had been "like Special Olympics, or something." It's almost like when you watch something and you don't believe you are hearing or seeing it -- that's how we felt. It just blew us away. Then we heard the audience laughing. It...

John-John Fenster, two-time Special Olympic fencing gold medalist and team co-captain, continues to apologize for comparing his dismal leadership ability during last year's games with those of President Barack Obama's first days in office. Fenster said he was a terrible team captain and his leadership skills "were like I was Obama, or something," during the live Special Tonight Show. The statement drew laughter from the studio audience, but fell under the hot media spotlight. "You know, it's just something I said, a joke, you know, that I wasn't much of a captain," said Fenster. It was all going so well as the President chatted to Jay Leno. Then he made a crack about the Special Olympics ... It was billed as the first time that a sitting President of the United States had appeared as a guest on a late-night talk show. After Barack Obama’s performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, there’s also a good chance that it was the last. Granted, the President, as always, was charming. Granted, he lit up the studio with that Hollywood-grade smile. Yes, he explained the AIG crisis in clear, measured terms, and wisely backed away...

hen 84% of the American people, according to the AOL Hot Seat weekend poll, think a joke you cracked on late night television was either tone-deaf/insensitive or worse yet flat-out offensive then you might think you have problems. (Heh who are we kidding? You do! You do!) Just because Britain's largest daily newspaper has a top ten gaffe reel assembled and online before your presidency is barely 60 days old, you might believe that you're the laughingstock of serious members of the world community of leaders. (Again, likely, you're right.) And when you take the time to address an Islamic...
