I had the honor of attending the 2009 Indiana State Special Olympics Games at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. Watching these athletes compete is truly inspiring. They compete for the shear joy of competing. Walking through the crowds of competitors, I was repeatedly shown medals and ribbons, proudly displayed. Mr. President, I truly wish you could have witnessed the effort these athlete put forth. Perhaps then, you would understand just how hurtful your comments were.
