Eunice Kennedy Shriver, 1921-2009
You are the stars and the world is watching you. By your presence you send a message to every village, every city, every nation. A message of hope. A message of victory.
The right to play on any playing field? You have earned it. The right to study in any school? You have earned it. The right to hold a job? You have earned it. The right to be anyone's neighbor? You have earned it.
...Eunice Kennedy Shriver, 1987 Special Olympics World Games, South Bend, Indiana
“You have no right to be born.”
-Edward Swimmer Kennedy
Well done.
Are you really form Upland? I’m from La Mirada.
what would Eunice Kennedy say about that?
what would Eunice Kennedy say about that?
Special Olympics are her legacy.
Why was Obama not crucified for his crack about his bowling qualifying for the Special Olympics? Can you imagine the reaction if a Republican had said that??????
Yep. Hi, neighbor. When I had an office in Whittier years ago, my partner and I used to play golf all the time down the street at the La Mirada Country Club.
Here is my story about his remark and photos of my Kiwanis club with Special Olypics Bowlers.

I got my son involved in special olympics for the first time this year. I now have a greater appreciation for the program after seeing how much the kids enjoy participating in sports, regardless of the extent of their ability.
I hope her legacy lives on for as long as we have a special needs community.
May she rest in peace.
I wish my son were interested in doing Special Olympics. He has zero desire to compete or get involved in any way.
we will open our borders to children from around the world with special needs because we won’t allow them to be born here.Of course they’ll get free medical care and their families hurried through the immigration process so they can vote but thats another story.
I apologize for using Wikipedia, but it’s easy and to the point:
“Special Olympics
History
The first International Special Olympics Games were held in Chicago in 1968. Anne McGlone Burke, a physical education teacher with the Chicago Park District, began with the idea for a one-time Olympic-style athletic competition for people with special needs. Burke then approached Eunice Kennedy Shriver, head of the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Foundation, to fund the event. Shriver encouraged Burke to expand on the idea and the JPK Foundation provided a grant of $25,000.”
She did not FOUND the special olympics, she funded Ann McGlone Burke’s idea. The AP and the news bozoes are too lazy to even use a minimal resource like Wikipedia.
Did you know that Joseph Kennedy (JFK’s father) had a LOBOTOMY preformed on Rosemary (JFK’s sister) because she was a high-spirited young adult?
The result? She became totally retarded and handicapped. Google Rosemary Kennedy & Lobotomy.
Yes, the Kennedy’s should be shaping our healthcare/ NOT/.
I’ve long felt that this was the reason Eunice got so involved with the Special Olympics. Paying penance for (one) family sin.
Everytime Fox News mentioned her death they called her JFK’s sister. Never a mention of fat Teddy.
Thanks for the info.
>>La Mirada Country Club
That is a short walk from the house were I grew up.
On particularly foggy mornings we would hop the fence and cut right through the golf course to get to La Mirada High School.
My friends liked to sneak in and fish for catfish in the golf course lake.
When they created the Regional Park across the street, my brother and I paddled our surf boards around the park lake until the sheriff deputies arrived.
We once road motorcycles more than 100 MPH down La Fonda Rd adjoining the golf course. It was 75 MPH over the posted limit.
So many stories . . . good times!
We used to cruise Whittier Blvd. Hang out at the Plush Cue. Grab a snack at the House of Pies. Road race on Turnbull Canyon Road.
