Ask any sidewalk counselor. Odds are he or she has heard some version of this from those heading into the abortion clinic: “I know it's wrong. But I'm a Christian and I've prayed about it and I know God will forgive. His grace is greater than all my sin.” What's wrong with this picture? (Other than the fact that a baby is about to be deliberately put to death.) Most Christians instinctively sense something's desperately out of whack here. But what? Sadly, few seem able to put their finger on it. Sadder still is that after they sift through their...
  • Ok...Catholics. Just had a Catholic tell me that I'm not saved by "Grace"

I was raised Lutheran and have attended many churches. I was born-again in 2005. I was shocked to have a Catholic tell me that *we* aren't saved by grace alone ... but that we need to recharge our salvation with works. Now ... it's not that I'm not charitable and kind. We all know the studies about Christians and charitable giving. But *I'M* NOT saved by Grace? Are you kidding?

Christ is the theme of the entire revelation of God. He is promised in Genesis, revealed in the law, prefigured in its history, praised in its poetry, proclaimed in its prophecy provided in its Gospels, proved in its Acts, preeminent in its Epistles and prevailing in Revelation. He is seen in every book of the Bible. Take a journey through the halls of the Bible and in every one of them you will see Christ. IN Genesis He is the Seed of the woman IN Exodus the Lamb for sinners slain IN Leviticus our High Priest IN Numbers The Star...

I served as a sister in a religious order for about fifty years and during all that time, I had never heard the true Gospel. Certain things may be let ride, but when it comes to the Gospel there can be no compromise, because the Gospel is the power of God for salvation. A false gospel cannot have that power and any church that preaches a perverted gospel is depriving its members of the foundational and most essential message, the message of salvation. False Teachers in the Early Church In the Bible we read of the churches in Galatia where...

  • Calvin and the Council of Trent's Doctrine of Grace

The following is from John Calvin's commentary on Corinthians: 9. For we are fellow-laborers with God. Here is the best argument. It is the Lord's work that we are employed in, and it is to him that we have devoted our labors: hence, as he is faithful and just, he will not disappoint us of our reward. That man, accordingly, is mistaken who looks to men, or depends merely on their remuneration. Here we have an admirable commendation of the ministry -- that while God could accomplish the work entirely himself, he calls us, puny mortals, to be as it...
