From the time of the American War Mothers to the present day, the tradition of honoring our wounded, ill and injured service members has been an integral part of American respect for those who have served their country. Since the Silver Star Families of America brought back this tradition and petitioned Congress, May 1st of every year has been designated as Silver Star Service Banner Day.
