  • Nuclear Semantics

The argument over whether a British intelligence report was accurate or not is quite frankly moot. Whether or not the piece of paper contained accurate or tainted information doesn’t change the fact that Saddam Hussein had chemical and biological weapons. And the fact that he had an advanced nuclear weapons program, as admitted by the IAEA, stands as proof that it was only a matter of time before the murderous dictator attained the nuclear capability he was striving for. So, the real question isn’t whether one report out of many corroborating Hussein’s actions was false or not, the real question...

The Absurdity of 'Thinking in Language' This paper has been read to the University of Southern California philosophy group and the Boston 1972 meeting of the American Philosophical Association, as well as to the Houston meeting of the Southwestern Philosophical Society. Appeared in The Southwestern Journal of Philosophy, IV(1973), pp. 125-132. Numbers in "<>" refer to this journal. Among the principal assumptions of major portions of philosophy in recent decades have been: (1) That philosophy somehow consists of (some sort of) logic, and (2) that logic is a study of and theory about (some sort of) language. There, of...
  • Reclaiming the political lexicon

Peter Cuthbertson discusses the importance of concepts and semantics to defining a political meta-context If your arguments are irrational and unconvincing, and the consequences of people listening to them harmful and destructive, then you really need to have some other factor on your side to succeed. Sadly, those who advocate socialism, statism, lilly-livered liberalism and an ever-expanding government have just this. For almost every modern political argument is conducted in a lexicon that favours them, every debate being a competition between those who can use leftist language most convincingly - usually the left, unsurprisingly. Daniel Hannan covered this phenomenon 18...
  • TO MY FELLOW CHRISTIANS: THE FLAG IS AN IDOL!

    03/14/2003 8:03:57 PM PST · by LalahLand · 376 replies · 385+ views
I am curious to find out why some of my fellow Christians still recite the pledge of allegiance. When you "pledge your allegiance" to an inanimate object you are basically worshipping that object. Am I missing something here? Why do some of us choose to salute and break one of the most important commandments? Shouldn't our pledge of allegiance be to God, and not a piece of cloth? The pledge of allegiance to the flag basically states that we will (blindly) support the flag and the actions of our government without question. That is the very essence of what idolatry...
  • ATTACK OF THE KILLER EUPHASIMS!

    Las Vegas Review-Journal ^ | Feb. 2, 2003 | Vin Suprynowicz
The "use of derogatory word terms, such as 'illegal aliens' ... etc. not to be used in future articles," leads the printed list of "demands" presented to the Review-Journal last June 4 by Fernando Romero, a longtime agitator and 54-year-old executive for The Mirage, who categorically denies any "undocumented workers" are employed in the Las Vegas hotel industry. Freelance education columnist Ken Ward's accurate Feb. 13, 2002, report on a 16-week tax-funded "Parent Leadership Training workshop" at the school district was "accusatory, sarcastic, humiliating, condescending and insulting," Mr. Romero and his cohorts wrote in that list of demands. Why?...
