“We are the gold standard. They’re back there in Hollywood making movies right now because of us. Because they believe in us and what we’re doing. I’m on the phone with every f—ing studio at night, insurance companies, producers and they’re looking at us and using us to make their movies. We are creating thousands of jobs, you motherf—ers. I don’t ever want to see it again. Ever!”

"I know that the Church of Scientology has made a difference because your creed is a universal one that speaks to all people everywhere," Bass said. "I look forward to helping you bring about the difference for everyone in this city, the Golden State of California and from here, the nation, and from the nation, the world." Remini, who was raised in the Scientology religion and has a show dedicated to exposing the church's wrongdoings, said Americans deserve to have a vice presidential pick that stands "for the good and decent when it’s not convenient, who are willing to fight...

"As Cuba begins nine days of mourning, I wish to express my condolences to the Cuban people and the...

I’m hearing that Tom Cruise and Elon Musk’s Space X are working on a project with NASA that would be the first narrative feature film – an action adventure – to be shot in outer space. It’s not a Mission: Impossible film and no studio is in the mix at this stage but look for more news as I get it. But this is real, albeit in the early stages of liftoff. Mission: Impossible Fallout took a break, literally when he broke his ankle in a leap from one rooftop to the other and he also hung from a helicopter;...

he Church of Scientology has firmly made Clearwater, Florida its home in the blink of an eye - shelling out $103million to sweep up 101 acres of the city's waterfront downtown area over the course of three years. The controversial church first landed in Clearwater in 1975 with one hotel property to its name, but the organization had elaborate plans to spread its reach across the entire downtown area. In just three years, starting with a frantic land grab in January 2017, Scientology doubled its footprint in the city. Following a fallout with the City Council, Scientologists started to buy...

In the third lawsuit filed against the Church of Scientology and its leader, David Miscavige, in three months, a 25-year-old woman alleges she was repeatedly sexually assaulted as a child in Scientology’s care, including at the church’s Clearwater Academy. On top of the abuse, the lawsuit explains how church officials allegedly knew it was occurring and did nothing to stop it or alert law enforcement, actions rooted in policy written by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. When the woman spoke of her alleged abuse after leaving Scientology in 2018, the church deployed a campaign of harassment against her, a tactic...

The public face of the Church of Scientology is benevolent. For decades the church has enjoyed the razzle-dazzle of its celebrity members and high-profile spokespeople, including Tom Cruise and John Travolta. But beneath the glamour and celebrity is a veil of secrecy, with disturbing cult-like practices and serious allegations of violence, abuse and even claims of holding people prisoner. 60 Minutes travelled to Scientology’s California HQ – the ‘Gold Base’ just outside of LA – where reporter Tara Brown went looking for answers on Shelly Miscavige’s disappearance – but instead, 60 Minutes cameras were met with hostility and an angry...

I’m nominating Leah Remini for this year’s John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award. Let me tell you why. For as long as I can remember I have been obsessed with the “religion” of Scientology. As a child I was a big fan of L. Ron Hubbard’s science fiction writing. My mom used to get me a subscription to Isaac Asimov’s monthly sci-fi publication and often there were short stories from Hubbard. One day I mistakenly checked out his Scientology handbook “Dianetics” and while I was grossly disappointed to discover it was not the sci-fi romp I’d hoped for, it...
