TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) - Music superstar Taylor Swift called a Topeka Christmas light show "epic" in a handwritten note sent to a Topeka native. Swift sent the note to Louie Cortez, the creator of the annual "Cortez Holiday Light Show," thanking him for using her song "Are You Ready For It?" to kick off the display in November. Cortez, a huge Swift fan, posted a video of his Christmas display perfectly synced to Swift's song on Twitter where it quickly gained traction online..... Swift also said Cortez was "So amazing," for including her song. "Thanks so much for the effort...

Mansplaining is the tip of the iceberg. Many of the experiences of women in the workforce are so patterned and commonplace they have spawned an emerging vocabulary, which includes terms like bropropriation (when a man takes credit for a woman’s idea). Here, we propose a number of additions to the vernacular, which are likely to remain relevant for the foreseeable future.

Back in the day, I was one of the first people to start using Google as a search engine. I liked it’s clean interface, and simplicity. Of course, over the years, other people also found this to be the preferential search engine. Unfortunately, Google became big, powerful and yes, evil. They siphon up your personal information with zero regard to fourth amendment protections. They sell the information to the highest bidder, and give it away for free if the person is part of a government agency. Unfortunately, people like myself VALUE privacy. And that means that I no longer can...

Socialists and Fascists Have Always Been Kissing Cousins By Bradley J. Birzer • November 9, 2018 In 1939, the same year the Germans and the Russians mutually consented to rape Poland, T.S. Eliot rather famously (or, I suppose for some, infamously) declared: “If you will not have God (and He is a jealous God), you should pay your respects to Hitler or Stalin.” Eliot, of course, could not have been more correct. In 1936, you had three choices: National Socialism, international socialism, or dignity. In 2018, we find ourselves in similar circumstances, even if they aren’t quite as clear cut as...

The Hart-Celler Immigration Act of 1965 Political figures and historic circumstances produced dramatic, unintended consequences As President Lyndon Johnson signed a landmark immigration reform bill into law at a ceremony beneath the Statue of Liberty on October 3, 1965, he predicted the legislation would not significantly affect the life of the nation, but also declared it would accomplish an important national goal. "This bill that we will sign today is not a revolutionary bill," the president said. "It does not affect the lives of millions. It will not reshape the structure of our daily lives. ... Yet it is still...

GOP path to retaking control likely goes through Trump-won districts now held by Democrats — Following the 2018 election, it appears as though Republicans will only hold three districts won by Hillary Clinton in 2016, while Democrats are on track to hold 31 districts won by Donald Trump in 2016. — As Republicans plot a House comeback in 2020, most of their obvious targets are in those Trump-won districts now represented by Democrats, many of whom just got elected. House 2020: A first look s of Wednesday afternoon, Democrats appeared likely to hold a 235-200 majority to start the next...

Hoaxed: The ‘Illegal Alien Mom with Barefoot Kids’ Photo was a Setup – Another Staged #FakeNews Production After further review, yesterday’s ‘horrific’ picture of a woman with barefoot children running from the US border wall was a hoax. In the background of the picture a group of men are posing for one camera man and another is running towards another camera man. In other areas, people are just standing around. The woman with the children was just a photo-op:

Over the past decade, attackers motivated by right-wing political ideologies have committed dozens of shootings, bombings and other acts of violence, far more than any other category of domestic extremist, according to a Washington Post analysis of data on global terrorism.

CNN reporter Jim Acosta and Infowars publisher Alex Jones could both lob questions at President Trump’s press secretary if petitioners succeed in an effort pending on the White House website. A publicly-created petition recently posted on the “We the People” section of the official White House site calls on the Trump administration to grant press credentials to the right-wing Infowars publisher and assign him a seat him alongside CNN’s chief White House correspondent. “Alex Jones‘ first amendment rights are being violated everyday he does not have White House press credentials,” wrote the petition’s creator. “Let Alex Jones have press credentials...

No better time than Thanksgiving break to empower yourself against your leftist relatives... If the rest of us don't matter to them, at least the left should know how communism crushed gays, native Americans, unions, etc., See the reference site "Communism at 'Peace'" ( http://communiststats.com/ ). Millions of sleep apnea patients rely on CPAP breathing machines to get a good night’s rest. Health insurers use a variety of tactics, including surveillance, to make patients bear the costs. Experts say it’s part of the insurance industry playbook. Last March, Tony Schmidt discovered something unsettling about the machine that helps him breathe at night. Without his knowledge, it was spying on him. From his bedside, the device was tracking when he was using it and sending the information not just to his doctor, but to the maker of the machine, to the medical supply company that provided it...

A forged signature swapped for $1 — or sometimes a cigarette. The crude exchange played out hundreds of times on L.A.’s skid row during the 2016 election cycle and again this year, prosecutors said Tuesday as they announced criminal charges against nine people accused in a fraud scheme. Using cash and cigarettes as lures, the defendants approached homeless people on skid row and asked them to forge signatures on state ballot measure petitions and voter registration forms, the district attorney’s office said. The defendants — some of whom were scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday — face several criminal charges, including...

Just a little advice: First, put in an underground fire shelter about 20 feet down. There are companies out there which make very good ones from just the smaller shelters up to the kind one can live in for years if they had to and a couple of hundred thousand dollars added on to rebuilding is a small price to pay for the safety and security those things provide. Imagine simply going underground instead of evacuating to wait a fire out in comfort since one can get power generators as part of the deal. Build a monolithic dome home instead...

My essential understanding is that every right in the Constitution was for everybody. In the case of the free press, we are the free press. It was not just to a select group of people, who publish articles on the various media. But I need better proof than this from references. Can you help me?

First-time candidate Katie Porter, a UC Irvine law professor and consumer protection attorney, defeated two-time incumbent Rep. Mimi Walters of Laguna Niguel in California’s 45th Congressional District, becoming the first Democrat elected to the seat in the longtime Republican stronghold in Orange County. Porter ran on a progressive platform, touting her support for universal healthcare and vowing to take corporate money out of politics. Her victory in the wealthy, highly educated district including Tustin and Mission Viejo, which had never sent a Democrat to Congress, signals the shifting political landscape in the county.

Are the Laws of the Universe Fine-Tuned for Life? By Korey Haynes | November 12, 2018 Humans have often looked at the night sky and wondered if there’s anyone else out there. But stare into that darkness long enough, and many wonder instead: how did we get here? What were the odds, in a universe so enormous and chaotic, that humans should have come to exist at all? Is life, let alone intelligent life, such a wildly improbable occurrence that we’re the only ones here? Or are we an inevitable consequence of the laws of physics?Life exists on Earth (assuming...

ep. Tom MacArthur (R-N.J.) lost his seat to Democratic challenger Andy Kim on Wednesday, resulting in a near-wipeout for the GOP in the state, The Associated Press reported. With MacArthur's loss, Democrats successfully flipped four Republican seats in New Jersey in the midterm elections this year, some of which had been held by the GOP for decades. Come January, there will only be one Republican congressman from New Jersey — Rep. Chris Smith, who easily won reelection in a Republican-friendly district. MacArthur's race was considered a toss-up, though President Trump won the district by 6 points in 2016.
