• Shaken not Stirred?

I have all of the ingredients to make my own hand sanitizer using alcohol, aloe vera and hydrogen peroxide. Every recipe I have read calls for putting the ingredients in a bowl or large measuring cup, adding the ingredients, stirring then pouring into a container for use or storage. I would imagine that by using this method there is always going to be a certain amount left in the mixing container. So my idea is to pour the ingredients into my storage bottle, putting the cap on, giving it a good shake to mix things up then leaving it for...

…and all through the land not a soul was yet stirring, I blame broadband.Bam! - just like that it’s the Sunday before Thanksgiving and that holiday feast isn’t going to cook itself. We’ve been at this for over 10 years now and over that time I’ve shared almost all my old standby holiday recipes with you. Some of the holiday recipes I’ve posted are very, very old indeed (Mom’s Souper Sloppy Joes and Mom’s Goulash for holiday-eve repasts) some just old old (my Best Ever Banana Bread and White Bean Chili) and some are relatively new (my sister’s irresistible breakfast...

I know it’s nice to have warning in order to prepare, but for our friends in Florida, Georgia, South – and now North – Carolina, along with their anxious relatives elsewhere, in must seem as if they’ve been waiting on Dorian for a month now. Being caught in a real life Groundhog Day is exhausting. To all who find themselves in the path of the storm, I’m certain your fellow MOTI will keep you in their prayers. So for today’s diversion I’m just going to assemble my panzanella salad for you. I made this last Friday, when the weather was perfect...

The Thanksgiving marathon is starting early for team MOTUS as we’re heading out today for the first of several stops between now and next weekend. So that means it’s officially recipe day!I’ll be making these little gems for the pre-Thanksgiving dinner hour. We’ll be with Raj’s clan for Thanksgiving where the phrase “if everyone’s in charge nobody’s in charge” may have been invented. Dinner is always “planned” for 2:00 pm but never really hits the runway until 6:00 pm or so – and that’s in a good year when whoever signed up for the main event remembers to put the...

Liu, together with doctoral candidate Jiajing Wang and a group of other experts, discovered the 5,000-year-old beer recipe by studying the residue on the inner walls of pottery vessels found in an excavated site in northeast China. The research, which was published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, provided the earliest evidence of beer production in China so far. The ancient Chinese made beer mainly with cereal grains, including millet and barley, as well as with Job's tears, a type of grass in Asia, according to the research. Traces of yam and lily root parts also appeared in...

Last week I went to a vegan umami cooking class down in Chelsea. Last time I went to a professional cooking class was a vegan baking class at Blossom Bakery. That was on a Saturday morning, there was plenty of red wine involved, and it was a much smaller class (just 3 students including myself, plus our teacher) so it was very relaxed. This time it was on a Thursday night; it lasted 4 hours; we were divided into 4 teams, each team making 4 dishes with our chef and her assistants swarming around. Talk about intense! But I did...

OK, FRiends, just typed this recipe out for someone else, so thought I'd toss it out there in case anyone wants to follow one of my mad creations. In any case, so far we've had a challenging year but we've made it through some tough times, so I'd also like to praise the God of Israel, that even in these lean times, there are still things for me to be thankful for and I'm sure many of you as well. FReepers needing prayer, recipes, thankfulness, whatever. I'm off to do other things. Got potatoes sliced up roasting in the oven...

What started as a travel story for the Chicago Tribune has morphed into one of the biggest fast food recipe reveals: the original recipe for Kentucky Fried Chicken. The story of the how the recipe was (literally) placed into a reporter's hands started simply enough. A reporter travelled to the Harland Sanders Cafe and Museum and met with Joe Ledington, the nephew of Harland David Sanders (AKA Colonel Sanders).

Ledington, 67, says he used to blend the spices that went into his uncle's world-famous fried chicken, and the recipe in question is the real deal... How was it? Well, really good. In fact, tasters agreed the test kitchen fried chicken was even better than the Colonel's. But more important, did it taste like the Colonel’s secret blend of herbs and spices? It came very close, yet something was still missing. That’s when a reporter grabbed a small container of the MSG flavor-enhancer Accent (how did that get in the test kitchen?) and sprinkled it on a piece of the...
