Just days after announcing its latest digital-first anthology Adventures of Superman, DC Comics faces a growing wave of criticism for hiring Ender’s Game author, and vocal gay-rights opponent, Orson Scott Card to write the first chapter. An online petition calling on the publisher to drop the “virulently anti-gay writer” has already drawn more than 4,800 signers.... Although Card is best known for his award-winning 1985 novel Ender’s Game, he has become notorious for outspoken views on homosexuality and his advocacy against gay rights.... Adventures of Superman debuts online April 29 and in print May 29.

The death of Benazir Bhutto is a very sad thing for her family, a tragedy for her political party, and a historical complication that might well have far-reaching -- and devastating -- effects on Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the overall war against Fascist Islam. But that's not what I'm going to talk about right now. Because as we enter 2008, we're going to get into the presidential campaign in a big way. And the responses of the various candidates to Benazir Bhutto's death tells us an enormous amount of valuable information about how they would do as president of the United...

All in a Good Cause Here's a story you haven't heard, and you should have. An intelligence source, working for a government agency. He's not a spy, he's an analyst. He uses computers to crunch numbers and at the end of his work, out pops the truth that was hiding in the original data. Let's call him "Mann." The trouble with Mann is, he has an ideology. He knows what he wants his results to be. And the original numbers aren't giving him that data. So the agency he works for won't be able to persuade people to fight the...
  • Civilization Watch: Humpty-Dumpty Logic (Orson Scott Card on Gay Marriage)

A little dialogue from Lewis Carroll: "When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean -- neither more nor less." "The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things." "The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master -- that's all." The Massachusetts Supreme Court has not yet declared that "day" shall now be construed to include that which was formerly known as "night," but it might as well. By declaring that homosexual couples are denied their constitutional rights...
