First came the shouting match between Netanyahu and the U.S. ambassador. Then Martin Dempsey told an audience in London that he didn’t want to be "complicit" in an Israeli attack on Iran. The upcoming joint military exercise between the U.S. and Israel was then scaled back, and this murky report about the U.S. contacting Iran to distance itself from an Israeli strike appeared. Then came the floor fiasco at the Democratic convention over the platform's Jerusalem language. Now this.Question for foreign-policy wonks: When was the last time relations between the U.S. and Israel were this poor? The White House has...

September 11, 2012 Breaking: Obama Turns Down Meeting with Israeli PM Netanyahu UPDATE: Obama Meets ‘The Pimp with the Limp’ Bryan Preston Haaretz reports: The White House declined Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s request on Tuesday to meet U.S. President Barack Obama during a UN conference in New York at the end of the month. An official in Jerusalem said that the prime minister’s office sent the White House a message stating that although Netanyahu will spend only two and a half days on U.S. soil, he is interested in meeting Obama and is willing to travel to the U.S. capital...

The White House is denying that they refused to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the sidelines of a U.N. conference later this month. "The President arrives in New York for the U.N. on Monday, September 24th and departs on Tuesday, September 25th," National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor said. "The Prime Minister doesn't arrive in New York until later in the week. They're simply not in the city at the same time. But the President and PM are in frequent contact and the PM will meet with other senior officials, including Secretary Clinton, during his visit," Vietor...

Days after the Obama administration announced drastic cuts in the number of U.S. troops participating in military exercises with Israel, U.S. military planes landed in Egypt for joint exercises with Egypt's military forces. Named "Eagle Arena 2012," the exercise marks the first military interaction between the U.S. and Egypt since Hosni Mubarak was president. It also means our military is officially in joint training exercises with military personnel from a country strongly influenced by the Muslim Brotherhood (Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi is a prominent member of the Muslim Brotherhood).

Israel and the United States are in discussion on setting a "red line" for Iran's nuclear program, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. "We're discussing it right now with the United States," Netanyahu said in an interview with Canada's CBC television aired late on Sunday.

Per Bret Baier's Facebook... From a new post in Israeli paper - Haaretz: (WH has not denied yet - working on statement apparently) "The White House declined Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's request on Tuesday to meet U.S. President Barack Obama during a UN conference in New York at the end of the month. An official in Jerusalem said that the prime minister's office sent the White House a message stating that although Netanyahu will spend only two and a half days on U.S. soil, he is interested in meeting Obama and is willing to travel to the U.S. capital...

The White House's response marks a new low in relations between Netanyahu and Obama, underscored by the fact that this is the first time Netanyahu will visit the U.S. as prime minister without meeting Obama.

Barack Obama is fond of insisting that he "has Israel's back." Maybe he should mention that to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. In remarks to journalists in London quoted by the Guardian, General Martin Dempsey warned that any Israeli attack on Iran would "clearly delay but probably not destroy Iran's nuclear programs." He also said economic sanctions on Iran were having an effect and needed more time to work, but that the good they were doing "could be undone if [Iran] was attacked prematurely." And to underscore the firmness of his opposition to an Israeli strike, the Chairman added...

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly shouted "Time has run out!" at U.S. Ambassador Dan Shapiro, as the two met in Israel earlier this week and discussed the Obama administration's position on Iran. The Jerusalem Post reported that Shapiro was in Israel for meetings with Netanyahu, and at some point the PM couldn't hold his frustration with President Obama in any longer: "Instead of pressuring Iran in an effective way, Obama and his people are pressuring us not to attack the nuclear facilities." Those present say Netanyahu then said assertively: "Time has run out!" Shapiro responded by alleging that Netanyahu...

US Gen. Martin Dempsey’s assertion Thursday, Aug. 30 that the US would not be “complicit” in an Israel strike against Iran, together with the drastic reduction in the scale of next month’s joint US-Israeli war game disclosed by TIME, add up to a blunt message from US President Barack Obama to Israel: You are on your own! See how you manage without special US weapons and US military backup, including a shield against missile counter-attack, if you decide to defy us and go through with a military operation against Iran. Instead of the 5,000 US troops originally assigned for Austere...

On December 8, 2011, Iran displayed to the world what they claimed was an American RQ-170 Sentinel stealth drone captured by Iranian forces. The story of how it was captured, as told by Iran, seems fanciful. The story told by U.S. officials is not much better. Questions about the loss are many. How could this happen? Was it equipment failure? Operator error? Old-fashioned incompetence? Did Obama wimp out, or was it a purposeful surrender of advanced U.S. technology and intelligence data? Iran claims that it hijacked the drone by confusing its GPS coordinates and instructing it to land safely...
