This afternoon, atrocious news surfaced that CBS correspondent Lara Logan had been subjected to “brutal and sustained sexual assault” while covering the celebrations in Egypt. According to a full statement released by CBS: On Friday February 11, the day Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS Correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a 60 MINUTES story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into a frenzy. In the crush of the mob, she was separated...

Many universities have set up centers to examine the history of the Cold War. The Wilson Center for Scholars in Washington D. C., for example, created an offshoot called The Cold War International History Project. That institute has over the years hosted many conferences, with panels of scholars representing all points of view. Two years ago, I was an active participant in a two days session at the CWIHP about Soviet espionage, that was based on the new book Spies: The Rise and Fall of the KGB in America. The sponsors were fully aware of contending views on the issue...

An audience of forty journalism students and die-hard fans packed the TV studio at New York University's Carter Journalism Institute on Wednesday, November 3. Visibly excited to meet cartoon journalist Joe Sacco after a discussion of his work with NYU's Middle East professor Zachary Lockman, a number of students arrived early to get their copies of Sacco's new graphic novel, Footnotes in Gaza, and his older work, Palestine, autographed. After thirty or so Starbucks espressos were discarded and most phones were silenced, the "conversation," part of an NYU series entitled "Primary Sources: Coverage in Context," began on schedule. The conversation...

Neighbors of the Montclair couple accused of being Russian spies painted the woman as a friendly, involved mother who recently completed an MBA while her husband stayed at home and kept to himself. But they also questioned how helpful the couple could have been to the Russian government if they were indeed spies. Moscow sent Cynthia and Richard Murphy to infiltrate government circles — to befriend political movers and shakers, including a prominent New York financier with high-level political connections, officials said. But neighbors said the husband seemed to rarely leave the home — outside of walking the girls to...

MLA Prof (Re)Presents Malthus Bethany Stotts, January 12, 2010 Another installment in the MLA quotations collection. NYU Professor Maureen McLane, speaking on a panel on “Major Romantic Writers,” recently promoted the idea that should conceive of Thomas R. Malthus’ population control theories as “a theory of information” rather than biology : “In her marvelous essay ‘The Traffic in Women: Notes Toward a Political Economy of Sex’ from 1975, Gayle Rubin follows Lacan in proposing that we ‘conceive of psychoanalysis as a theory of information rather than organs’ and we might follow this through for Malthus, undertaking along the lines of...

A 20-year old student at New York University apparently took his own life on Tuesday morning, reviving concerns about the high number of suicides there in recent years. University and police officials said the student, Andrew E. Williamson-Noble, a junior from Irvington, N.Y., jumped from the 10th floor to the lobby at the Bobst Library about 4:30 a.m. John Sexton, the university’s president, said in an e-mail message to students and the faculty that “indications are that he took his own life.” Mr. Williamson-Noble was found on his back; a suicide note was later discovered in his room, according to...

Four financial whizzes forged a bond at NYU -- then joined forces to devise an incredibly simple ATM scheme that wound up bilking up to $1 million from scores of banks, authorities said yesterday. The conniving quartet included a well-connected lawyer who interned with the Queens DA's Office, a Vietnamese refugee-turned-financial-broker, and a married bank-executive couple, officials said yesterday. "This was a beaut of a scam," said Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes. The scheme involved the four setting up bank accounts, then disguising themselves when they went to withdraw the money at ATMs and later claiming they were the victims of...

NYU will be short one professor this fall. Thio Li-ann, a professor at the National University of Singapore and a member of that country’s Parliament, was scheduled to teach a course on human rights in Asia and a seminar on constitutionalism as a visiting professor at NYU’s Law School. According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, she cancelled her plans last week in response to campus protests of her comments in opposition to homosexuality. More than 740 people have signed an online petition saying that, by hiring Thio, the law school was “acting in opposition to its own policy of...

SHE'S tired of the 'bullying' and 'torrent of abuse' she has received for her views on homosexuality. She questions why her detractors have chosen to attack her personally and jeopardise her job, instead of focusing their attack on her views. And she asks if people can appreciate the cost she has paid for holding on to her convictions and principles. Dr Thio Li-ann expressed these views in an 18-point memo she sent to the dean of the New York University (NYU) law school and some faculty members, a copy of which has been posted on a US legal blog....

These liberal hippies at NYU apparently occupied a student lounge to make some point about something that liberal hippies care about. The school security comes in and these Masters of the Universe have no idea what to do.

The case against the millennial generation: exhibit # N87960 By Afghan WhigI was going to write about something else tonight, but this is too good to ignore. Via Hot Air (warning: strong language): a video of the recent New York University "Kimmel occupation" being calmly dispersed. If you don't feel like watching the entire thing, (the narrator's a bit much to take), jump to the temper tantrum at 5:36. videoThe story is a that a group of mostly New York University students forcibly occupied the school cafeteria for three days. During their sleepover, they produced a bizarre list of demands,...

Last week we reported about the NYU student "revolution". Some ambitious Che Guevara wannabes "seized" control of the school cafeteria and demanded...well, no one was really sure what they were demanding. Here's a video documenting part of the final moments. This is nothing short of hysterical. Worst hippies ever!

NEW YORK - Major stock indexes posted broad gains on heavy trading early Tuesday on news that a rogue group of student protesters from New York University had taken over the White House and barricaded themselves in the Oval Office. The Dow posted a 1100 point (17%) gain in the first hour of trading, wiping out nearly all of its loss since January 20 and almost 35% of losses since November 4.“Finally, we’re seeing encouraging signs of sanity in Washington,” said UBS market analyst Jane Cohen. The market rally lifted issues across the board, with 87% of stocks showing gains. Market...

These little Che Guevaras and Obamas finally ran everyone's patience at NYU to an end. highlights are: spouting the usual mob-rule collectivist nonsense about "democratic process," threatening the administration, shouts of "police brutality," and, my personal favorite, trying to tell the security and police staffs what they can and cannot do..It's classic collectivist nonsense. If I came away with anything from this video, it's that I do not want my kids to go to NYU. What a bunch of snotty little Ches.

This should probably be in the humor section but since it really happened I guess not. Click the URL link for the video of the "final assault" on the Kimmel Dining Hall at NYU that's being occupied by hippie rejects and wannabe anarchists. It's hilarious and reminds me of a SNL skit. The comments section is good for a laugh too.

A dwindling number of student activists remained barricaded inside a New York University cafeteria early Friday morning after dozens of supporters scuffled with police outside the building overnight and one person was arrested on a summons. School officials and the police could not immediately confirm whether the person arrested was a student, either from NYU or another college campus. Police said the person was issued a summons for disorderly conduct.

Treason University Recently, I received an unsolicited copy of Foreign Affairs magazine, the house organ for the Council on Foreign Relations. Between page 54 and 55 of the Jan/Feb 2009 issue, this ad leapt out at me. Two women are chatting in front of the UN, with a line of flags behind them. The headline is: "As a global citizen, to whom do I pledge allegience?" The sub headline reads: "The traditional state-to-state mindset may be at odds with the realities of our increasingly globalized planet." The rest of the ad is about the need to create global citizens who...

Ann Coulter Visits NYU to Deliver Predictable Stand-Up Routineby Ned Resnikoff on Thursday, December 11, 2008 2:00 - 5 Comments One of the first things I noticed about the eagerly anticipated Ann Coulter speaking engagement at NYU was that people were dressed up for it. It was almost like this was some kind of surreal College Republican prom night as much as it was a speaking event, but I guess I could understand why they might be excited. They had scored Ann Coulter, the modern conservative icon who had, by her own admission, only ever spoken once in New...
