A father and daughter were arrested after a family feud over take-out Chinese food. Wildwood police were called Friday night to the PepperTree Apartments after a woman dialed 911 to report a disturbance. The woman’s son claimed he had been attacked by his father, 51-year-old Bruce Barton Schell, and his sister, 25-year-old Atlantis Ann Schell, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. The family had ordered take-out Chinese food, but the containers were not properly labeled, leading to confusion about the order. The son “unknowingly” ate food that was not his own, prompting him to be put...

A Vietnamese family suffered an unspeakable tragedy after staff at a South Korean hospital allegedly mixed up the mother’s chart with another patient and performed an abortion while she was under anesthesia. According to The Korea Times, the mother, who is not named in reports, was six weeks pregnant when she and her husband visited the Seoul hospital in early August for a confirmation of her pregnancy and prenatal care. After confirming the pregnancy, hospital staff recommended a nutritional supplement. While she was waiting for it, however, a nurse and doctor allegedly mixed up her chart with that of another...

CLEVELAND — An Ohio woman has sued a Chicago-area sperm bank after she became pregnant with sperm donated by a black man instead of a white man as she and her partner had intended. The woman is seeking damages and wants to ensure the sperm bank doesn’t make a similar mistake again. Within days of their wedding in New York, Jennifer Cramblett and Amanda Zinkon had become pregnant with the donor sperm. In April 2012, five months into her pregnancy, Cramblett, 36, called Midwest Sperm Bank LLC outside Chicago to reserve sperm from the same donor in the hope that...

A US government laboratory mistakenly mixed a common flu strain with a dangerous and deadly type of bird flu and shipped it to another lab, authorities said Friday. The latest news followed admissions of mishandled anthrax and forgotten smallpox vials at separate US government labs, and raised new concerns about the safety of dangerous agents which could be used as bioterror weapons. No one was endangered by the mixed flu strain, said Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Tom Frieden, who nevertheless said he was "astonished" that protocols could have been violated in that way. "Everything we have looked...

Thirty-five weeks pregnant, Robin Rodgers was vomiting and losing weight, so her doctor hospitalized her and ordered that she be fed through a tube until the birth of her daughter. But in a mistake that stemmed from years of lax federal oversight of medical devices, the hospital mixed up the tubes. Instead of snaking a tube through Ms. Rodgers’s nose and into her stomach, the nurse instead coupled the liquid-food bag to a tube that entered a vein. “And she said, ‘Oh, Mom, she’s dead.’ And I said, ‘I know, but now we have to take care of you,’ ”...

In Russia, a publisher had to quickly recall a calendar recently, issued to celebrate the Russian victory in World War II, when it was discovered four of the photographs that were supposed to be showing Soviet soldiers, actually showed German troops. The publisher admitted that they did not know what German soldiers looked like during World War II. The publisher had sent copies of the calendar layout to a veterans layout to a veterans organization for checking, but the elderly veteran who looked at the photos had very poor eyesight, and could not clearly see what the images were, and...

PRAGUE (Reuters) - A Czech couple who decided to take a DNA test to squash persistent pub gossip and prove that their 10-month-old baby was their own got a nasty surprise. The couple, from the southeastern town of Trebic, had some doubts about the child as her hair was blonde and they both had dark hair. Fellow drinkers' suspicions got on their nerves. But the test showed neither of the parents had the same DNA as the baby, Czech news agency CTK reported Wednesday, suggesting a mix-up at the hospital. Authorities were looking into the case.

When John Jago phoned the social security office he felt as fit as a fiddle. It came as a surprise, therefore, when the woman at the end of the line told him he was dead. "I'm sorry Sir, but we have got you down as dead," she said. "You died on 12 March last year." Mr Jago, a healthy 52-year-old father of two, said: "I told her, 'Look, I'm alive, I'm talking to you. How on earth can I be dead?" It was not the first he had heard of his death. He had only called the social security office...

LONDON (Reuters) - A mix-up at a British clinic that left a white couple with black twins has sparked fears about the reliability of fertility treatment and left the law scrambling to catch up with science. While there are strict injunctions on identifying the twins and their sets of vying "parents," the case has thrown a spotlight on how medicine can mess with nature, leaving courts to pick up the pieces. "Embryos all look the same," Sonya Jerkovic, in charge of the London Fertility Center's laboratory, told Reuters after the latest blunder at an unnamed clinic. "It's our worst...
