. . The USO Canteen FReeper StyleDelivering a Touch of Home Message from Snow Bunny to all those who visit the Canteen. This is how I think of the USO Canteen Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road, a place where a weary veteran can spend the night. Since it opened, it is magical how so many Freepers who post here, feel it too. It has been so dear how the Freepers kept making it a cottage - a home-type of place that had a huge living room for them to visit in and a dance...

Suit against Wenatchee in sex cases reinstatedJudge's shock ruling says key files were withheld By MIKE BARBER SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER In a stunning and strongly worded decision, a Spokane County judge yesterday reinstated a key civil lawsuit against the city of Wenatchee in the infamous child sex ring investigations of 1994-95. Superior Court Judge Michael Donohue agreed that key files concerning Bob Perez, the former Wenatchee police lead detective in the case, were never turned over to lawyers for the plaintiffs. They include East Wenatchee pastor Roby Roberson and others acquitted in 1995 of bizarre accusations of child molestation that...

The European Union has accused the tobacco giant R.J. Reynolds of selling black-market cigarettes to drug lords and mobsters, helping them launder profits from their illegal activities. A lawsuit describes R.J. Reynolds's allegedly corrupt business dealings in Europe and Latin America, including with members of the Italian Mafia and Russian organised crime, Colombian drug cartels and senior government officials in the Balkans. The suit, filed in New York on Wednesday, paints a world in which contraband cigarettes have become the currency of choice in Europe for money laundering, and where one of the world's big tobacco companies aided and abetted...

RIP, FREE REPUBLIC, ANOTHER CONSERVATIVE WEB SITE GETS OVER RUN BY THE RATS!? It appears that the rats, the socialists, the Islamofascists and other perverts of the Dark Side are about to close another conservative web site by overloading it and making it slower than trying to pour honey at 10 degrees below zero. Until this is resolved, is there any way to stop the threads that devour bandwidth like Freeper of the Day, the Daily Dose and other nice threads that eat up bandwidth with all of the photos. Stop the posting of pictures until this is resolved. Not...

For education and discussion only. Not for commercial use. BELLEVUE, Wash. (AP) — Boeing Co.'s Shared Services division, which handles computing, telecommunications, building maintenance and other in-house jobs for the aerospace company, plans to cut 1,200 to 1,500 jobs in the next six months. The cuts, which will come through layoffs, attrition and eliminating contract workers, amount to nearly 9 percent of the Bellevue-based division's work force, spokeswoman Barbara Murphy said Wednesday. Most of the unit's employees work in the Puget Sound region. The reductions come on top of the 30,000 jobs that Boeing plans to eliminate by the end...

Salt Lake smokers are not happy. More than a dozen puffers have telephoned Salt Lake Mayor Rocky Anderson's office to voice diatribes about Anderson's proposal to ban smoking from city sidewalks and public parks. Those smokers not making telephone calls aren't happy, either. "I'm smoking, I don't care. They can give me a ticket," said Carla Conner as she puffed a cigarette downtown Tuesday morning. After producing a profanity-laced tirade concerning Anderson's proposal, Conner calmed down a little. At 49, Conner, a lifetime Salt Lake resident, has been smoking since she was 13 and doesn't plan to quit. "My husband...

Pubs and clubs with more than one bar will be encouraged to make at least one of them smoke-free from as early as January. Under proposals on passive smoking which are now being finalized, all bars will be "predominantly smoke-free" by 2005. The Herald has obtained a copy of the draft agreement between the Government, publicans, clubs, the casino, and workers on the extension of the smoking bans in public buildings and restaurants to licensed premises. But under the draft agreement, operators reserve a right to change the details if the smoke bans adversely affect their business within six...

WTMJ-TV, the NBC affiliate in Milwaukee tonight aired an undercover investigation at a group home for mentally disabled patients in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where campaign workers for Jim Doyle, democratic candidate for governor were handing out small amounts of money and free food to the residents. They then were herded upstairs into a separate room and given absentee ballots to cast their vote for governor. Local reporter, Scott Friedman captured this on camera and broadcast it in an exclusive report tonight on Milwaukee news. The Doyle campaign is not commenting.
