Honey-loving bear has great taste in cars. The great outdoors can be beautiful but terrifying at the same time. Luckily humans have developed the ability to shield themselves from most of what mother nature can dish out, but apparently not baby bears carjacking an unlocked Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Legendary animal conservationist Steve Irwin has been quoted as saying that baby bears are nature's number one carjackers, closely followed by the common Vervet Monkey and African Baboon. All we know is that whenever you go out on a wildlife cruise, it is imperative that you lock your doors unless you want to...

Mercedes-Benz owner Daimler's profits slumped by almost two-thirds in 2019 as the legal costs of the "dieselgate" scandal and heavy investments in electric technology took their toll. The German carmaker's net profit fell to €2.7bn (£2.3bn) for 2019, it announced on Tuesday, almost €5bn worse than the previous year's performance. It also slashed its dividend from €3.25 per share to only 90 cents to help preserve cash to plough into electric vehicle technology. Daimler is carrying out swingeing cuts to its global workforce as it tries to save more than €1bn in costs. In November it said it would cut...

MERCEDES has sparked a privacy row by admitting it spies on drivers with tracking devices covertly installed in its cars. The secret sensors, fitted to all new and used motors sold by the firm’s dealers, pinpoint the vehicle’s exact location. And it insists they are only activated in “extreme circumstances” — when finance customers have defaulted on their payments. But it admits sharing car owner information and vehicle location details with third-party bailiffs and recovery firms who repossess the cars. But Mercedes customers who buy cars through the official financial arm give their permission when signing lengthy terms and conditions...

(Reuters) - German automaker Daimler officially opened a Mercedes-Benz factory near Moscow on Wednesday at a ceremony attended by President Vladimir Putin, marking a rare foreign investment into Russia's car industry. The plant in the town of Esipovo 40 kilometers north west of Moscow is the first in years to be opened by a foreign carmaker in Russia where investment into the once burgeoning auto industry dried up amid western sanctions and a stagnant economy. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Putin said the plant would produce 25,000 cars a year and that investment in the project had totaled 19 billion...

When Spanish civil servants got wind that someone was sweeping up the priceless treasure of a 200-year-old frigate from the ocean floor, it triggered a real-life escapade full of naval pursuits and secret airlifts - like something from a comic book adventure. And that is what it has now become, after one of those suit-and-tie sleuths convinced Spain's best-known graphic novelist that together they should tell the tale of the modern-day treasure hunt. In 1804, a British fleet opened fire on the Spanish ship Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes, causing the death of 250 people of the 300 on board...

We’ve come a long way since the Titanic, and now the rich travel alone--and in unimaginable style. By Plane Clearly the most efficient way of transport for everyone, wealthy included, is by air. A Mercedes-Benz that was used to shuttle Adolf Hitler around Nazi Germany will be auctioned in Arizona early next year and could be worth millions, if anyone steps up to bid on it. The 1939 Mercedes-Benz 770K Grosser Offener Tourenwagen’s anonymous owner will offer the car to bidders at the Worldwide Auctioneers event in Scottsdale on Jan. 17, during the city’s annual classic car extravaganza. While any Nazi symbols on the vehicle were removed long ago, the ghosts of its past remain.

While the debate continues over whether stricter trade rules are needed to boost U.S. jobs, the head of the Mercedes-Benz Vans plant in North Charleston says his company is already helping to fulfill President Donald Trump's campaign promise to put more Americans to work. "I think having this facility here and the fact that we've made the decision to expand in North Charleston is something that is already very good in alignment with what your president wants — to have more things done locally and not in Mexico or some other region," said Michael Balke, president and CEO of the...

Mercedes-Benz has "reassigned" advertisements set to air during The O'Reilly Factor after reports that the show's host, Bill O'Reilly, was accused of sexual harassment. A New York Times report published Saturday found that Fox News parent company 21st Century Fox and the host himself paid a total of $13 million to five women since 2002. The money was paid "in exchange for agreeing to not pursue litigation or speak about their accusations against him." O'Reilly has said the accusations lack merit, but he has not denied the payments.

President-elect Donald Trump threatened German car makers with a big border tax of 35 percent for cars imported into the U.S. Trump criticized German auto makers like BMW and Volkswagen for producing the majority of their vehicles in Germany, not the United States. “You can build cars for the United States, but for every car that comes to the USA, you will pay a 35 percent tax,” Trump told German newspaper Bild. If the German firms decide to build factories in Mexico and plan to sell cars to the U.S., “without a 35 percent tax, you can forget that,” Trump...

For nearly 25 years, AMG has been known as Mercedes’s performance division. But to think of it as just a small engineering department inside a massive corporation couldn’t be further from the truth. In its nearly 50-year history, it has built some of the most incredible performance cars to ever come out of Germany, and it’s been doing it long before it was under the wing of the mighty Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes’s performance prestige remained intact thanks to AMG’s fantastic reputation for quality and performance, and its Mercedes connection kept AMG at the forefront of the performance tuning community. "Robots can't deal with the degree of individualization and the many variants that we have today," said the company's head of production Markus Schaefer. "We're saving money and safeguarding our future by employing more people." The change comes at a time when a number of companies are replacing people with robotic devices. International Federation of Robotics (IFR) released a survey today stating that 1.3 million of the industrial robots will be in use by 2018. In fact, the number of those machines rose 43 percent in a year between 2013 and 2014. However, as Mercedes continues to expand the options...
