Mercedes-Benz USA's CEO confirmed the Mercedes-Maybach GLS to Automotive News. It will be built at the same Vance, Alabama, plant as the regular GLS, making it the most expensive passenger vehicle built in the States.

That Maybach 6 cabrio at source is one of my favorite autos ever (in terms of exterior design). It's on a par with the Bugatti Royale (1927-33) seen here...

If I was worth 10 billion I wouldn’t own a car with a sticker price over $100K. I might buy a Mercedes S Class or a BMW 7 Series...but nothing more.

Much of the success of the new Maybach is going to hinge on its being distinguishable from the Mercedes S class. The biggest complaints about Maybach so far have been “why pay $175K for a $91K car?”
