The imam of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah warned men against blackmailing their wives and of abusing their right to divorce, according to the Alriyadh daily newspaper. Speaking at his Friday sermon, imam Saleh Al-Bedeir criticized overusing the threat of divorce and deemed such behavior impermissible in Islam. He labeled it a bad habit that Muslims should avoid. The marriage contract obliges couples to treat each other decently; “women shall have rights similar to the rights against them, according to what is equitable,” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:228) the imam cited in the sermon. He said Muslims must be patient, as few...

Marriage is not worth it. It’s not worth the financial sacrifices, the lost sexual opportunities, and the lack of freedom. All in all, it’s a ball and chain — of little benefit to any man interested in pursuing happiness and well-being. This is the view that we’ve encountered from many young men of late.

Burning passions over Donald Trump's presidency are taking a personal toll on both sides of the political divide. For Gayle McCormick, it is particularly wrenching: she has separated from her husband of 22 years. The retired California prison guard, a self-described "Democrat leaning toward socialist," was stunned when her husband casually mentioned during a lunch with friends last year that he planned to vote for Trump – a revelation she described as a "deal breaker." "It totally undid me that he could vote for Trump," said McCormick, 73, who had not thought of leaving the conservative Republican before but felt...

W, by Marxist crackpot Oliver Stone, was a Saturday Night Live skit with an all-star cast. The movie lost money and was quickly forgotten. The other, even more toxic production was Death of a President, released years earlier which fantasized about Bush’s assassination and remained a guilty pleasure for left-wing viewers. That gay marriage is a looming threat to religious liberty as observed here, with the possible loss of tax exemptions for churches and institutions that don’t comply, and may lead to an era of religious persecution not seen in since the days of the Roman Empire, are scene in the chilling redefinition of the First Amendment’s guarantee of religious liberty by Sen. Tammy Baldwin, Democrat of Wisconsin, and the Senate’s only lesbian. Baldwin, who is up for reelection in 2018, made her remarks on the June 27, 2015 broadcast of Up With Steve Kornacki on MSNBC. Are you a good husband or wife? Are you a good wife or husband? It seems like most people think that they are but with the high divorce rate of today and the large number of troubled marriages, it’s not likely that most spouses are “good” at it. In fact, most of us need to improve quite a bit in our role as a husband or wife. So how do you know if you are an above average, super spouse or if you need to work to improve? This list should be helpful. Ask yourself these 5 questions, and answer...

If you are American and over 50, then you were born in a country where, in some states, it was still illegal to marry someone of another race. The 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling that struck down those bans, Loving v Virginia, falls in 2017. Though there will undoubtedly be many news stories lamenting racial bias in areas of American life from policing and employment to housing, the rise of interracial marriage over the past half-century tells a different story. In the coming year, calculates William Frey of the Brookings Institution, a think-tank, nearly a fifth of all...

On the rooftop of her Brooklyn apartment building this past spring, Erika Anderson put on a vintage-style white wedding dress, stood before a circle of her closest friends, and committed herself — to herself. “I choose you today,” she said. Later she tossed the bouquet to friends and downed two shots of whiskey, one for herself and one for herself. She had planned the event for weeks, sending invitations, finding the perfect dress, writing her vows, buying rosé and fresh baguettes and fruit tarts from a French bakery. For the decor: an array of shot glasses emblazoned with the words...
  • CATHOLIC CAUCUS: Fatima visionary predicted 'final battle' would be over marriage, family

Mexico City, Mexico, Dec 31, 2016 / 02:33 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Sister Lucia dos Santos, one of the three children who witnessed the Marian apparitions at Fatima, died in 2005. But before her death, she predicted that the final battle between Christ and Satan would be over marriage and the family. So says Cardinal Carlo Caffarra, who reports that the visionary sent him a letter with this prediction when he was Archbishop of Bologna, Italy. This reported statement by Sister Lucia, expressed during the pontificate of Saint John Paul II, was revisited earlier this year by the Desde la Fe...

Is your relationship making you feel like you’re slowly going crazy? If so, you’re probably involved with a woman who is an emotionally abusive bully. Most men don’t want to admit that they’re in an abusive relationship. They describe the relationship and their wife using other terms like crazy, emotional, controlling, bossy, domineering, constant conflict, or volatile. If you use words like this to describe your relationship, odds are you’re being emotionally abused. Do...

EW YORK (JTA) – Conservative Rabbi Seymour Rosenbloom has been expelled from the Rabbinical Assembly, the movement’s rabbis’ association, for performing interfaith weddings. An ordained Conservative rabbi for 44 years, Rosenbloom was expelled by unanimous vote last month after a hearing of the R.A.’s Executive Council. Since 1972, the Conservative movement has prohibited its rabbis from officiating at or even attending intermarriages. Rosenbloom told JTA the council offered to retain his membership in exchange for a promise not to perform any more intermarriages. Rosenbloom declined the offer.

The Cherokee Nation's Attorney General issued an opinion that, effective immediately, will permit the tribe to recognize same-sex marriages, overturning a previous ban that was implemented in 2004. "Just like anything else in life, times change, interpretations of the law change," Hembree said. "The law that was overturned based on the opinion that I just issued, based on the plain reading of the Cherokee Nation Constitution ... and in my opinion guaranteeing equal rights for all -- it was not lost on me that I was personally changing my opinion and personally changing my legal position." Hembree added that he's...

One of my favorite scenes in Tolkien’s The Hobbit is the riddle-battle between Bilbo and the creature Gollum that took place in the dark, deep caverns beneath the Misty Mountains. (I can remember when I first read Tolkien’s classic and came upon the riddles. I tried not to read ahead to see if I could solve them myself.) Bilbo, having accidently fallen into the mysterious place, wanted the way out (which Gollum knew), and Gollum wanted to make a meal of the plump Hobbit. Thus a riddle challenge was issued and accepted. Toward the end, a frustrated Gollum presented Bilbo...

The presidential election was so close that many factors were “but-for” causes of Donald Trump’s victory. One that’s been mostly overlooked is Trump’s surprising success with religious voters. According to exit polls, Trump received 81 percent of the white evangelical Christian vote, and Hillary Clinton only 16 percent. Trump did significantly better than the overtly religious Mitt Romney and the overtly evangelical George W. Bush. He likely over-performed among other theologically conservative voters, such as traditionalist Catholics, as well. Not bad for a thrice-married adulterer of no discernible faith.

What is marriage? What is the purpose of marriage? What does it mean? I am asking this of a culture where it is normal to live together while unmarried, have children and give them names of either parent. Marriages don't necessarily last longer than just living together, so it is not a lifetime commitment, i.e. 'til death do us part.' The law no longer distinguishes between having a marriage license or not when people separate.... So with 'marriage' having lost any significance, what is the purpose of a wedding? In the past, a wedding celebrated the beginning of a new...

Dear Sugars, My husband has a life that many people who are "rule-followers," like me, would envy. When I first met him, it was undeniably a passionate love affair. I'd never dated anyone or known anyone like him before. He took risks, lived all over the world, had many passions and has been a loyal friend. He's seven years older than I am, and we met at work, where his power and seniority at the office was insanely attractive to me. The year we got married, he wanted to take a risk and go back to graduate school to find...
