In a discussion related to comparing White House communications offices in Dem and GOP administrations, CBS News Chief White House correspondent Bill Plante said last week: "The media is mostly left-leaning. It is difficult to turn out graduates in majors relating to the media who are at the right of the political spectrum. So the media gets to be leaning to the liberal side. ...The Democratic party sees the media as their ally." Several soldiers of the 507th Maintenance Company could not defend themselves or their comrades March 23 because their weapons malfunctioned while they sustained a lengthy fire attack by Iraqis near Nasiriyah, Iraq, according to a U.S. Army report on the ambush. The weapons that jammed or otherwise failed included a M-249 machine gun called a SAW (squad automatic weapon), a .50 caliber machine gun, as well as several M-16 rifles. NEW YORK (AP) - Filmmaker Spike Lee and Viacom have settled a lawsuit Lee filed to keep the media giant from calling its TNN cable television network "Spike TV." Lee had obtained a temporary injunction in June, preventing the name change, but on Monday state Supreme Court Justice Walter Tolub lifted the order. The ruling means Viacom, which also owns CBS and MTV, can proceed immediately with plans to rebrand TNN as Spike TV, the "first television network for men."
