UNITED NATIONS, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Faced with what they see as an existential threat, leaders from low-lying and island nations implored rich countries at the United Nations General Assembly this week to act more forcefully against a warming planet. The failure by developed economies to effectively curb their greenhouse gas emissions contributes to rising sea levels and especially imperils island and low-lying nations at the mercy of water. "We simply have no higher ground to cede," Marshall Islands President David Kabua told leaders in a pre-recorded speech at the high-level gathering on Wednesday. "The world simply cannot delay climate...

San Francisco is an enigma. One of the most walkable cities in America yet filled with streets so steep your legs burn; a hub of zero-emission vehicles and electric bikes crisscrossed with the world's last manually operated cable car system; a leftist haven with more free-market billionaires per capita than any other city on Earth. This complexity may lead to some nuanced questions about the city, but also sometimes people open their phones and ask: “Is San Francisco a country?” I found the weirdest questions people have been asking Google about the city, seemingly largely informed by a misunderstanding of...

KEY POINTS Covid-19 vaccines are still “stunningly effective” despite fears that immunity may dwindle over time, experts have said. There have been some concerns about the efficacy of Covid-19 vaccines after a number of recent studies indicated a growing number of “breakthrough” Covid cases among the fully vaccinated. Studies have shown that the fully vaccinated are still highly protected against severe infection, hospitalization and death caused by the virus.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has begged the Taliban to uphold women's rights after the Islamists toppled the government in Kabul amid fears that the country will once again become 'a breeding ground for terror.' 'I would just again implore those who made these moves in recent days to acknowledge what the international community has called for - human rights and the safety of their people,' she said at a news conference in the capital Wellington. 'What we want to see is women and girls being able to access work and education. These are things that have traditionally not...

Former Secretary of State, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” that the Senate needs to work faster in the confirmation process to combat the “brain drain” brought on by former President Donald Trump. Mitchell asked, “I want to also ask you about undoing some of the Trump changes, I don’t mean the Paris Climate Accord, but there has been such a brain drain from the scientists who have quit or been fired all through the federal government, not just the EPA and other related agencies. How do you undo that? Doesn’t...

On August 10, 2021, Mike Lindell will be hosting a Cyber Symposium where he will lay out all his data about the 2020 elections. His claims are numerous but the main one is that we were under cyberattack by the CCP. He claims that his "white hat hackers" have collected all the evidence needed to prove Donald Trump won re-election. He states that all the dead people voting, people voting from out of state, etc. was done using 2010 election rolls. The people who voted out of state indeed did not, but their names were needed to electronically alter the...

WASHINGTON—Roughly half of all cars and light trucks sold in the U.S. by 2030 would be electric, hydrogen-fuel cell and plug-in hybrid vehicles under voluntary targets set to be announced Thursday by the Biden administration and backed by auto makers, contingent on government support. In a joint statement, General Motors Co. , Ford Motor Co. , and Chrysler maker Stellantis NV said their commitment hinges on federal funding for manufacturing and supply-chain research and development, purchase incentives and an EV-charging network. The auto makers said the voluntary targets for EV sales “can be achieved only with the timely deployment of...

Vaccinated Britons now make up almost half of Covid cases in the country, a symptom-tracking study suggested today — but there are signs the third wave may have already peaked. This does not mean the jabs do not work. Scientists have always been honest that they are not perfect and millions will still be vulnerable to infection even after getting both doses.

As a New York criminal investigation continues after bringing tax fraud charges against Donald Trump’s business and a top executive, other prosecutors in Georgia, Washington DC and New York have inquiries under way that could also yield serious charges against Trump and his company, according to former prosecutors and public records. For example, a Georgia district attorney is leading a wide ranging criminal probe into Trump’s infamous call on 2 January to Georgia’s secretary of state beseeching him to “find 11,780 votes” to block Joe Biden’s presidential election win there. Meanwhile, separate prosecutors in New York and Washington DC are...

The antivirus pioneer reportedly killed himself after he was prepared to be extradited to the United States, and within 30 minutes after a news outlet shared the news, McAfee's Instagram uploaded a photo of the capital letter Q. The 75-year-old tech mogul is reported to have taken his own life in prison in Barcelona, according to local paper El Pais. And the "Q" photo on his social media appears to be a reference to QANON, the bizarre conspiracy theory that was tied to the fortunes of former President Donald Trump. Continuing a worrisome trend, the New York Yankees played shortstop Gleyber Torres on the Covid-19 injured list today. The fully-vaccinated player thus becomes the eighth team member to contract the coronavirus after being fully vacccinated. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention only reports patients that have been hospitalized or died in so-called “breakthrough” cases of those who contact the virus even after being vaccinated.
