Max Baucus wants to “curb activities that increase overall health care costs.” A new healthcare bill being peddled by Baucus will reportedly contain proposals for “lifestyle taxes.” They’ll have a duel purpose: raising revenue and encouraging Americans to adopt what Senator Baucus deems “wealthy lifestyles choices that promote wellness.” Presumably because he thinks drinking is “bad” and drinkers are easy targets the Baucus bill includes “ Increase[d] Taxes on Alcoholic Beverages.” Max also aims to “Impose an Excise Tax on Sugar Sweetened Beverages.” Fat people and children use lots of sugar, so “government” has to make sugar expensive because obesity...
