It's almost as if he likes it like this. California's Gov. Gavin Newsom vows to make the coronavirus emergency measures in California its "new normal" unless --- and it's a big if --- a vaccine for the virus is ready.

On Tuesday, Texas may have created the anti-lockdown movement’s first martyr when a Dallas judge sentenced hairstylist Shelley Luther to a week in prison for the crime of trying to provide for her own and her employee’s families. Texas is home to 28,995,881 people. It’s had 32,879 diagnosed Wuhan virus cases (that is, 0.11% of the population got diagnosed) and 890 virus deaths (0.003% of the population). Most of the cases are linked to nursing homes or people with co-morbidities. Even in nursing homes, though, things needn't be so dire. One doctor’s experiment shows that early intervention with the hydroxychloroquine...

British epidemiologist Neil Ferguson, who helped create the U.K.’s coronavirus lockdown strategy, resigned from his position at the government on Tuesday after violating social distancing guidelines. The story: Ferguson reportedly had visits at his home from his married lover during the lockdown, despite repeatedly advising the public about the importance of social distancing. Ferguson has frequently appeared on TV where he supported the lockdown and praised the “very intensive social distancing” measures. Ferguson’s lover, Antonia Staats, made at least two visits to his home in London since the lockdown measures were imposed, on 30 March and 8 April, the Telegraph...

Prominent feminist attorney Lisa Bloom, who is also the daughter of Gloria Allred, took to Twitter on Friday to insist that she believes former Vice President Joe Biden sexually assaulted Tara Reade but that she would vote for him anyway. Reade came forward on March 25 to claim that while she worked as a staffer for Biden’s senate office in 1993, he pinned her against the wall, groped her, and put his hands under her skirt to penetrate her with his fingers. Unlike the dubious allegations against now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, left-leaning media outlets refused to cover Reade’s allegations...

A Harvard study, which linked pollution to coronavirus deaths and made headlines in prominent publications, has revised its numbers, prompting calls for an EPA investigation. The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health study, published on April 4, initially claimed that the numbers of coronavirus-related deaths might end up 15% higher in air polluted areas. The Harvard researchers corrected their estimates later that month, cutting the percentage by almost half. They now say pollution would lead to an 8% increase in coronavirus deaths in places with a higher level of air pollution. The study still hasn’t been peer-reviewed.

Project Veritas has a new video out, focusing on funeral directors who are blowing the whistle on the alleged padding of Wuhan coronavirus death totals. The Project Veritas folks spoke with funeral directors out of New York who believed that the deaths were being attributed to the virus whether they were due to the virus or not. The tape reveals a completely haphazard approach, as James O’Keefe observes, marking down people as having the virus whether they had it or not. If people died at home people would rather put “COVID” rather than have to go into the home if...

The United States has released video that shows coalition forces successfully hammering an Islamic State cave complex in Iraq with airstrikes. The airstrikes hit 10 caves and were done in coordination with Iraqi forces, according to a Thursday press release from Combined Joint Task Force — Operation Inherent Resolve. It is estimated that between five to 10 ISIS fighters were killed in the airstrikes, though that figure could...

Despite predictions that Wisconsin would see a rise in coronavirus cases due to state and local leadership’s decision to move forward with in-person voting earlier this months, experts have found no evidence that the election contributed to the official count. The story: According to the latest count by state health officials tracking the impact of holding the election, around two dozen people contracted the virus on election day, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Wednesday. However, it is unclear how many, if any, of those people were infected at the polls. “With the data we have, we can’t prove an association....

A British women’s studies professor at the University of Oxford implied in a new op-ed that she does not want scientists at the renowned university to be the first to create a vaccine against coronavirus because she claims it would be used as “proof of British excellence” and that if the drug is in short supply, it wouldn’t be made immediately available to people outside the U.K. The op-ed: Dr. Emily Cousens notes in an opinion piece for the HuffPost that if Oxford researchers see the development of a coronavirus vaccine “as a race to be won” then “patriotism will...

The Mesa City Police Department's homicide division is investigating the death of Gary Lenius, the Arizona man whose wife served him soda mixed with fish tank cleaner in what she claimed was a bid to fend off the coronavirus. A detective handling the case confirmed the investigation to the Washington Free Beacon on Tuesday after requesting a recording of the Free Beacon's interviews with Lenius's wife, Wanda. Gary Lenius, 68, died on March 22. Wanda, 61, told several news outlets last month that both she and her husband had ingested a substance used to clean aquariums after hearing President Donald...

Joe Biden accuser Tara Reade demands the former vice president release records related to his tenure as Delaware senator, during which time she alleges he sexually assaulted her at his office. Her call: “Joe Biden, I want you to release all the personnel records from 1973 to 2009 and be transparent about your office practices,” Reade told the Daily Caller on Tuesday. “I would like to hold you accountable for what happened to me, to how your staff protected you and enabled you, bullied me multiple times into silence.”

Illinois could soon be the first state in history to have its bonds rated as “junk.” Last month, both Moody’s MCO and Standard & Poor’s downgraded Illinois debt to just one notch above junk status. Last week, the Illinois State Senate President Don Harmon (D-Chicago) wrote a letter to Congress requesting a $41.6 billion bailout. Critics balked. In many ways, Illinois may have already crossed the Rubicon. Our analysis at OpenTheBooks.com shows that an Illinois family of four now owes more in unfunded pension liabilities ($76,000) than they earn in household income ($63,585). In a state of 13 million residents,...

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife were heckled by locals as they walked through Prospect Park in Brooklyn over the weekend, despite living 11 miles away in Manhattan. De Blasio was filmed strolling with his wife Chirlane McCray, both of whom were wearing masks, through the historic park on Saturday afternoon. New Yorker Darren Goldner took video of the moment he scolded the Mayor for forcing an entourage of four SUV security vehicles to drive his family to the park for a nonessential recreational walk in a completely different borough. 'Seriously, you guys have a park....

U.S. hospitals receive more funds if patients are coded for coronavirus even if those patients haven’t been tested for the virus, fact-checkers at USA Today, Politifact, and Snopes have confirmed. A hospital that admits a likely coronavirus patient can get up to $13,000 in aid and three times as much if that patient is placed on a ventilator, according to Minnesota state senator and physician Scott Jensen.

What are we waiting for? The question can be posed in either a wild, irresponsible way — or a sane, measured way. In New York, our “pause” will continue until at least May 15, and New Yorkers are asking, in a measured, sane way: What exactly are we waiting for?
