WASHINGTON (AP) — Newly assigned to cover the Reagan White House, Associated Press photographer Ron Edmonds knew the most important part of the job was to keep watch on the president “at all times.” He did that for 28 years. But there was never a day like March 30, 1981. That was when Edmonds, who died Friday night in Virginia at age 77, took a series of images for the ages. President Ronald Reagan had just spoken to members of the AFL-CIO at a Hilton hotel not far from the White House. As Reagan emerged from the hotel, John Hinckley...

A federal judge issued an order Monday to redact newly released images of deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, his partner Ghislaine Maxwell and young girls and women on his infamous Caribbean island. U.S. District Court Judge Loretta Preska of the Southern District of New York ordered for a collection of photos from Epstein’s Little St. James Island to be redacted after they were disclosed in a court filing unsealed Monday. “The Clerk of the Court is directed to strike docket entry 1332-7 in the above-captioned case because it contains inadvertently disclosed images that should have been redacted. Counsel shall re-file the...

On Thursday, New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez launched a major legal offensive in an attempt to address the online risks faced by minors. The lawsuit targeted Meta Platforms, Inc., its CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and associated entities such as Instagram, LLC and Facebook Holdings, LLC. This bold action seeks to prevent the exploitation of children on social media platforms. “Our investigation into Meta’s social media platforms demonstrates that they are not safe spaces for children but rather prime locations for predators to trade child pornography and solicit minors for sex,” Attorney General Torrez said in a statement. “As a career...

I'm looking for a new hosting service for the images that I sometimes put on Free Republic. A few months ago, somebody's browser freaked out at one of the images I put up, thinking there was malware involved. Since then, I stopped posting the images, but I want to migrate my site to a new hosting service with a decent SSL, because the host and SSL I have are obviously not that good, and the price is almost constantly increasing. What say you, fellow FReepers? What is a good one to check out? I am looking on my own, but...

Fabricated images of former President Trump being arrested are circulating social media as the country prepares for his possible indictment this week. The images, created using artificial intelligence software (AI), show what appears to be the a large group of New York City Police Department officers arresting the former president as he resists be detained. Some of the images that were posted on Twitter even depict Trump being forced to the ground, while another image shows him running away from the police officers. The text in the images, like on the police officers’ uniform, is garbled — an indicator that...

Scientists say that images from the James Webb Space Telescope may change how they understand the origins of the universe after they discovered "the impossible." The findings were published in the journal "Nature" on Wednesday. Astronomers expected to find "tiny, young, baby galaxies" from the cosmic history documented in the images, but they found something else entirely. The study's lead author, Ivo Labbé, explained how shocked he was when he realized what the images meant. "Little did I know that among the pictures is a small red dot that will shake up our understanding of how the first galaxies formed...

Hey, Freepers, tired of waiting for the next official release of a scanty few number of official Webb Telescope images from NASA? You don't have to wait. You can learn how to do it yourself; that is, how to create finished images from the raw data that are pouring out of NASA, hour by hour, as we speak. Then you, and we, won't have to wait another week for a paltry few number of official jaw-dropping images. Here's a comment I found on Reddit that'll help you understand what is going on so you can get started. "It's complicated, because...

NASA is set to release the first pictures taken by the highly sophisticated James Webb Space Telescope next month, agency officials announced on Wednesday. In a highly anticipated ceremony on July 12, NASA and its collaborators, the European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency, will present the first collection of full-color photos from the Webb telescope. The $10 billion observatory is the biggest and most powerful space telescope ever built, and scientists have predicted that it will drastically alter how we understand the universe, per a report from NBC News. NASA will begin a live stream of the presentation...

To celebrate the new year, China National Space Administration (CNSA) published astonishing pictures of the Tianwen-1 Mars orbiter above the north pole of the red planet, according to Shanghai Morning Post. CNSA said the images were taken by a detachable sensor equipped with two high-definition cameras. The first picture shows the orbiter above the north pole ice cap of Mars. The second picture is a close-up of the orbiter’s golden exterior skin where high-speed data communication antennas and a solar wing are seen. Beyond the orbiter are ice caps though not the ice we consider on Earth. Mar’s ice caps...

I need some recommendation for a simple, secure photo sharing site to post images that I can then link with my FR posts. I tried Pinterest, but I couldn't link images using FR's html system. (I'm more tech savvy than I probably sound.)

Selfie-snapping Capitol rioters left investigators a treasure trove of evidence — at least 140,000 pictures and videos taken during the deadly Jan. 6 siege, according to federal prosecutors. Startling images quickly emerged of the siege, with many making no attempts to disguise their involvement — like bare-chested "QAnon Shaman" Jake Angeli, who was quickly IDed thanks to his horned bearskin headdress with red, white and blue face paint. One of the first inside, Douglas Jensen, allegedly said he wanted to make sure the world saw his QAnon shirt so that "‘Q’ could ‘get the credit’" for the siege, according to...

The USPS uses a program called Mail Imaging, which takes a photograph of the outside of every piece of mail sent in the U.S. While the primary purpose of taking the pictures is to process the mail, law enforcement agencies are able to request images of mail sent and received by a target they are investigating.

How accurate are these 21st century recreations? Voshart is the first to admit this is a creative project more than a historical one. He tells Smithsonian Magazine the results are “my artistic interpretation”. On Medium he writes the images are “more art than science”. “Sculptures and busts were idealized images of the emperors” states archaeologist Jane Fejfer from the University of Copenhagen. Referring to Emperor Augustus – the first to rule the Empire from 27 BC – AD 14 – she outlines how “mass-produced models were sent out to local workshops around the kingdom, which they then carved the portraits...

I've checked some lists of image-hosting sites, but perhaps someone can point me to good ones: -free -minimal "registration" (prefer not, or ability to use fake name) -no propaganda such as promoting BLM, homos, etc.

I have been using IMGUR.com to upload images and display them at Free Republic for years. Not one of those images has ever disappeared until now. Got this one this morning I don't know what the image was so I am downloading all the ones I have for safekeeping. The war on free speech is accelerating as we approach November 3rd.

TinyPic is shutting down its image hosting service because we can no longer support a free service that derives 100% of its revenue from ever declining on-site ad revenues. While you may continue to host images from our site until further notice, we encourage you to consider selecting one of the premium plans offered by our sister site, Photobucket. Thanks for using TinyPic for your hosting needs over the years. We apologize that we can no longer continue providing this service, but Photobucket is a great option going forward.

March 5, 2019 NASA Captures First Air-to-Air Images of Supersonic Shockwave Interaction in Flight One of the greatest challenges of the flight series was timing. In order to acquire this image, originally monochromatic and shown here as a colorized composite image, NASA flew a B-200, outfitted with an updated imaging system, at around 30,000 feet while the pair of T-38s were required to not only remain in formation, but to fly at supersonic speeds at the precise moment they were directly beneath the B-200. The images were captured as a result of all three aircraft being in the exact...
