Hey, Freepers, tired of waiting for the next official release of a scanty few number of official Webb Telescope images from NASA?
You don't have to wait. You can learn how to do it yourself; that is, how to create finished images from the raw data that are pouring out of NASA, hour by hour, as we speak.
Then you, and we, won't have to wait another week for a paltry few number of official jaw-dropping images.
Here's a comment I found on Reddit that'll help you understand what is going on so you can get started.
"It's complicated, because first we get the raw data from the MAST Portal more or less as the telescope records it. You can look, but it's unwieldy to use, and the images are greyscale taken one filter at a time, with plenty of noise and artifacts. The target audience is scientists utilizing the data, not the public.
"Then we get amateur and semi-pro astrophotographers going through MAST and making their attempt at processing the data, which sometimes gets picked up by random space twitter accounts, news websites, etc. ... Since these are coming from a bunch of different people working on their own, it's hard to consolidate these releases under a single source.
"Then finally, we get proper polished images professionally edited by NASA, along with the authors of papers which analyze the scientific output of the image in detail, both of which are processes that take non-trivial amounts of time. We haven't had any of this since the initial release a week ago."
Again, the video that walks you through the process so you (and maybe we?) don't have to wait, and allows you to see at least a few of the images that you might suspect are being "withheld" by NASA, is here: Can I process the JWST data better than NASA? Prepare to do some homework, though. I'm less than halfway through it all myself because at my age I need to take lots of frequent breaks!
Too many humper biden pics had to be weeded out.

Thank you.
Shouldn’t that pic be captioned “You are here” ?
great post, thanks!
