... As Representative Thomas Massie fights to hold off a Republican opponent and defend his seat in a deeply conservative and overwhelmingly white district in northeastern Kentucky, race has become a central line of attack in the increasingly bitter contest, with both candidates accusing each other of bigoted views. Mr. Massie was the first to broach the subject in April, when he shared a series of Twitter posts and articles that contained racist and anti-immigrant tropes written by his challenger, Todd McMurtry. After The New York Times reported on the material, Republican leaders who had backed Mr. McMurtry renounced him....

During an interview on MSNBC about Campaign 2020, Ambassador Susan Rice, the former national security adviser to President Barack Obama, stressed that Joe Biden needs to win the election because he is the leader who can "consign" Trump and his Senate supporters to the "trash heap of history."

A Democratic mayor in Washington state spoke out this week against the protests supporting the Black Lives Matter movement — after a group of vandals damaged her home. Mayor Cheryl Selby of Olympia, the state’s capital, told The Olympian this week that she was “really trying to process” the news that her home had been vandalized. “It’s like domestic terrorism. It’s unfair. It hurts when you’re giving so much to your community,” Selby told the outlet. The mayor of the largely Democratic city argued that she was facing three crises at once, “COVID-19, homelessness, and 400 years of racial injustice.” According to...

2010 started with a Republican Senate seat in true-blue Massachusetts, Democrats first such defeat in decades. On Nov. 2, Republicans gained six more Senate seats and a whopping 63 House seats, the worst midterm House losses since 1938. The damaging 2010 federal election results were nothing compared to what happened later when Democrats got their political clocks cleaned by aggressive state Republicans. Obama was more interested in his own reelection and fundraising. After 417 weeks in office, he’d held 416 fundraisers. Under Obama, Democrats lost upwards of 1,000 legislative seats along with control of chamber after chamber, plus numerous governors’...

As the United States wakes up to the myriad of ways its culture reinforces racist and offensive stereotypes, Americans are also waking up, quite literally, to an offensive breakfast. After a TikTok video by singer Kirby, titled "How Not to Make a Racist Breakfast,” started spreading virally on the Internet, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanhian tweeted “how is Aunt Jemima not canceled?” The viral video, which explores the offensive origins of Aunt Jemima pancakes, is trending on Twitter with two million views. It begs the question:

An ex-MP has questioned breakfast foods giant Kellogg's over its use of a monkey and "white boys" on cereal boxes, suggesting it is racist. Fiona Onasanya, who was jailed for lying to police about speeding, spoke about her concerns on Twitter. "So I was wondering why Rice Krispies have three white boys representing the brand and Coco Pops have a monkey?", the former Peterborough MP wrote. Kellogg's said the company "stands in support of the black community". Ms Onasanya, who was expelled from the Labour Party and lost her seat in Parliament in 2019, wrote on Twitter that she had...

The Aunt Jemima brand of syrup and pancake mix will get a new name and image, Quaker Oats announced Wednesday, saying the company recognizes that "Aunt Jemima's origins are based on a racial stereotype." The 130-year-old brand features a Black woman named Aunt Jemima, who was originally dressed as a minstrel character. The picture has changed over time, and in recent years Quaker removed the “mammy” kerchief from the character to blunt growing criticism that the brand perpetuated a racist stereotype that dated to the days of slavery. But Quaker, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, said removing the image and name...

After New York Jewish Community elected officials defied New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio by forcing open two more community parks, the Mayor pushed back in a press conference deploring those who "take the law into their own hands." New York State Senator Simcha Felder Monday tweeted: “We’ve asked nicely and waited patiently. We’ve made every logical argument. The people have spoken and they’re running out of patience. If the NYC Mayor won’t open ALL our playgrounds, Simcha Eichenstein, Kalman Yeger, and I will cut the locks open ourselves." ..... The three then arrived at a park on Avenue...

Saeb Erekat, Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), said on Sunday that an application of sovereignty over even “one inch” of “occupied Palestinian Territory” by Prime Binyamin Benjamin Netanyahu means an extermination of any chance of peace in the region. “If Netanyahu goes ahead with the annexation and apartheid, then he must ally with the American racist extremist organization, Klu Klux Klan, and must be ready to assume all his responsibilities as an occupying power,” said Erekat, who spoke during a virtual meeting of Israeli and foreign journalists and quoted by the Wafa news agency....

It’s every cop-meets-black-man story they’ve ever told rolled up into one. It’s brilliant. A cop has his gun drawn, pointed at his own reflection in bulletproof glass, and the ricochet hits himself in the groin. There’s a memorable catchphrase uttered in the moment. It’s caught on film. And it becomes a CNN story… complete with the logo and everything. Then we get to see the story evolve from a simple misunderstanding. To a story about a victim… To a story about a villainous cop… Followed by a lot of TV talking heads shouting at each other. A lot like how...

President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he “will not even consider” renaming military bases like Fort Hood or Fort Bragg. But perhaps it is still worth considering the possibilities of offering recruits more truth in advertising via modern names. The following suggestions were sent in to us at The Federalist as potential solutions for this thorny problem: Fort I Just Wanted Tuition Assistance Fort 100% Promotion Rate Fort 24% Interest Rate On A Camaro Fort Distract Everyone With New Uniforms Fort We’ve Been Using The Same Small Arms For Fifty Years But The Navy Needs A New Carrier Fort Don’t...

Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch has asked Mayor Muriel Bowser for permission to paint its own message on Washington, D.C., streets, after the mayor allowed “Black Lives Matter” to be painted on a road leading to the White House before “Defund The Police” was added by protesters. Judicial Watch asked Bowser and D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine for permission to paint “Because No One is Above the Law!” on a Capitol Hill street. “Mayor Bowser made a decision to turn D.C. streets into a forum for public expression. Judicial Watch seeks equal access to use this new forum to educate...

Former official said alleged firebomber is her 'best friend' ... former [Obama] official, Salmah Rizvi, ...helped secure the release of fellow lawyer Urooj Rahman by agreeing to be a suretor for her bail. Maura Healey, the attorney general of Massachusetts, set the Internet ablaze Tuesday with her non-criticism of the continuing riots – “Yes, America is burning, but that’s how forests grow.” Yet Healey has not always had a positive view of forest fires. In October 2015, she submitted negative comments to a federal agency on a proposed natural gas pipeline in Massachusetts, calling on the Obama-era Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to “scrutinize” the pipeline plans for adverse effects, including “increased occurrences of wildfires.”

Dear San Franciscan, You are invited to join Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi for a telephone town hall for San Franciscans today, Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. Congresswoman Pelosi will discuss the coronavirus pandemic and Congress' ongoing response with the Heroes Act. At this moment of immense sadness across America, our communities are grieving for the staggering loss of life from the coronavirus, which we have never seen in our lifetime. At the same time, we have for too long seen a pattern of police violence, particularly against the African American community, that must be addressed. At this difficult time...
