At the same time, we have for too long seen a pattern of police violence, particularly against the African American community, that must be addressed. At this difficult time for our nation, we will also be discussing the murder of George Floyd and the crisis of racial injustice and police brutality in America.

I’ve been invited to telephone town halls before. And they are all the same. They talk, you listen. And unless you are on a pre-approved list, you won’t be asking any questions.
Side story:
Years ago our school superintendent held a town hall meeting. It was televised on a cable access channel. I saw it. Some of my teacher friends were there, and they got to ask questions. I asked one of them about that later.
“Oh,” she said. “Each teacher was given a notecard at the door. On it was the question you were to ask.”
I suppose my friend could have gone off-script. But then she would have become an ex-teacher.
